Everyone has there beliefs and mine i am saying is leave historical rifles alone, If you want a hunting rifle buy one, if you want a custom assualt weapon build one.

But again I know its his and its america and he can do what he wants.

Most of the dings on many of my surplus rifles are from storage racks. None of my WWII era K31s ever saw combat but, they all have beaver chewed stocks. The funny thing is my bubba'd K11 and 1889 have similar beaver chewing alother they have both been chopped and sanded.

How about all the unissued surplus firearms? Are those OK to bubba because they never saw combat? Or, does their long history of being stored in some bunker somewhere mean that they should be kept in cosmoline for eternity?

While I understand (and pretty much agree with) what you are saying, you really need to worry about your own stuff and be happy that you and bubba both live where you do and have the freedom to keep your personal property how you want to. So, what do you think of militaries bubbaing guns to make them "more modern"? Is that OK? If it happened a long time ago would it be better than it happening now?

Look at it this way.

The more maroons bubba their rifles by "sporterizing" them, the more our un-diddled-with rifles are worth.

The German factories built something like 17 million of these things just before and during WW2. Notwithstanding Mitchell's years-long claims that he's found the very last ones, really, cross his larcenous heart, he really means it this time, just you wait and see... So, if a few have to be bubbaed, well, that's the way it goes.

Or look at it this way. Today's bubbagun is tomorrow's spare parts donor for others that need to be kept alive.

Or... as long as he doesn't chop the barrel, a stock replacement will put it right again.

What if its shot out? The original barrel on one of my 1908 Mausers is substantially pitted in the lase 6-8 inches of the barrel. Would replacing it with a new tube erase it from history?

$425 is not too far out of line these days for a RC. Depends on condition.

I will say that yes, a rifle in combat and used in war is more valuable at a historical standpoint and monetary value.

The reason K31 are only 300(now) is because they wernt used in combat. If that rifle had a history of battle you would not be seeing them for this cheap. and they got chewed up from soldiers that were issued it and took home. Mine has a troop tag witch adds a "cool factor" since it can tie someone to rifle.

Again this post was meant for someone that wanted to buy it or interested in one to get it. Didnt want a big debate but again we all entitled to opinions

It's not illegal to sell firearms on CL, but it is against their terms of agreement. They ban firearms sales, like ebay and paypal. Oh, and CL is owned by ebay.

Exactly. And you can usually find a K31 (I was going to say a "good K31" but I don't think there's a bad one out there) for a bit less -- $225 to $250 seems about right. The dealers as always mark up a lot, hoping to lure the unaware.

But the thing is, if you want an accurate shooter, I don't know of too many military surplus rifles that will outshoot a K31, and the Swiss GP11 ammo is effectively match grade at 50 cents a shot.

yeah, well glad to see people aren't chomping at the bid for that thing. Plus only one photo...ehhhh need more proof and see how good it is. 425 is to much.

Yea cuz you get them for 1$ and they give you free beer on top of it with boatloads of ammo.

425$ is not that outrageous. Would I pay it ? No. But its still fair for those wanting, willing, and able to buy one.
