I "need" a Yugo Tok because I can't justify a decent 1911 right now. I will get the 1911 eventually but a Tokarev is a cheap fix for a year or so. I like the look of the longer grip on the 9 rounders and the factory safety on them looks better that the Romanian,Polish import slap on's. I am so desperate that I am seriously considering taking a months vacation and driving due east with my FFL03 and do my own personal C&R version of American Pickers. To the meat, can anyone direct me to a Yugo Tokarev or the path of least resistance that will take me there? The reality of California gun laws is sinking in for me. Not so much the laws themselves but over the fact that I used to live in a gun freindly state and I voluntarily moved here. What does this have to do with C&R or Tokarev's? Nothing, but thank you for allowing me to vent. Robertsons Trading Post in Tennessee has them but I asked them an extra question and now i want to buy one somewhere else. I was decent enough to tell them that the Yugo's they were selling as 8 round mags really held 9. He got one out of the box while I was on the phone and agree'd that they sure did hold 9 not 8. I then asked if I could buy one face to face from them If I walked in to their store. He said if I reside in California my FFL03 is no good in Tenn. for handguns and it has to be shipped to a Cal. Dealer. I't was a pointless question because I will not find myself in Tennessee anyway but it bummed me out. I don't want to head east to find the C&R pistol of a lifetime only to be denied by some missguided soul like the folks at Robertsons.

You can drive to Arizona/Nevada and find a dealer and buy it directly from them. You'll be able to take it home that day. You'll have to pay a registration fee and fill out a form to CYA when you get back home to California. I think the fee is only $19 so not too bad. You could also have one shipped to a local FFL because you are an 03 C&R holder. The gun will have to be DROS'sed and pay for dealers transfer fees, which run about $50-$100 for both. Another way would be to keep an eye on the classifieds here on Calguns. Yugo Tok's don't come up for sale very often, but they do show up every now and again. If you're willing to take a Romy Tok instead, you'll find one a bit easier. In fact I've seen a couple show up in the Want to Sell section lately. Good luck in your search. -
You might want to take a second look at the Romanian Tokarevs. The safety is solid, and you could always seek out some of the wrap-around grips to make it beefier in your hand. It will still only hold 8, but that's a small price to pay for instant gratification.
I just got one at J&G and saw quite a few more - they are all in excellent condition and the price can't be beat - $219 + tax and you can go home with it that day.Originally posted by CSACANNONEERKeep in mind that you don't have a clue.Comment

Warning once you have enjoyed the Soviet Hand-cannon you may not be impressed by .45ACP anymore.
7.62x25 because vinter clothink comrad.
7.62x25 because you like a pistol that has carbine velocities and power
7.62x25 because you like a pistol that doubles as a flame thrower

I have certainly considered the drive to J&G for a Romanian. The gas would be only a bit more expensive than the DROS and fee's to have it shipped to Gusslers in Santee. If can get myself accross the Cal. state line to buy with my 03 and bring back with no DROS I will feel somehow like a victory over oppression. A Yugo would make me feel even more un-oppressed. The extra round (9 over 8) isn't as big deal. I have convinced myself the Yugo is better looking due to the longer grip and the safety. My low budget holly grail to keep me from playing with my toes all summer. I have a Russian Mak I bought 20 or so yrs ago that would be a nifty companion to the Tok.karma ?

might want to rethink, ammo is hard to find (surplus) factory ammo is expensive and the polish tok is far better than the yugo.sigpic

as for cost, ROLL YOUR OWN.
If you want old surplus prices then you are going to go self-cast lead .30 bullets.
Or you can load 110 Grain jacketed soft points or if you get lucky and can feed them 110gr Hornady V-MAX. Hehe those are a hoot....but their exists also in the human heart a depraved taste for equality, which impels the weak to attempt to lower the powerful to their own level, and reduces men to prefer equality in slavery to inequality with freedom.Comment

I am figuring decent non-corrosive ammo is a roughly the same as .45ACP. I think I don't shoot enough to justify rolling my own. The AIM deal looks pretty good. Shipping is about 16 more than J&G but you get a spare mag and holster from AIM which more than offsets the difference.karma ?

Have you read all the people who say that 7.62x25 is hard to load? Having put my own loads into operation, not one canted bullet. In fact, it is no harder to load than any other bottle necked round.
7.62x25, not as hard as advertised.
I am loving the 110 grain speer soft point hot-cor.. too bad they don't make it anymore. better penetration and better bonding with great expansion than the hornady 90gr hollow point (which is a damn fine bullet in it's own right)....but their exists also in the human heart a depraved taste for equality, which impels the weak to attempt to lower the powerful to their own level, and reduces men to prefer equality in slavery to inequality with freedom.Comment

I've used their 7.5 Swiss and it is great ammo. Reloads fine. Used the brass, 4895 and SMK's and worked great.NRA Life MemberComment
