You are aware that there is no automatic state registration for rifles aren't you?
The only way it will be "in the buyers name" is if the buyer voluntarly
registers it with DOJ using this form. http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/volreg.pdf Transfering a rifle through a FFL will not register it with the state or put it in your name.

Don't forget, as of January 2014 there WILL be long gun registration at time of sale / transfer, and even C&Rs, even between C&R license holders, will have to go through an FFL dealer.

Get 'em now while you still can...

I am way behind the times. I have been working too much and not buying enough C&R guns...

Please inform me of this January 14th registration and going thru an FFL.

That being said, I would not ship any firearm without absolute proof that the person is who they claim to be. It's not worth risking your license over.
This is what I do. I tend to have issues with UPS and FedEx who's policys demand I hand deliver it to a hub to be inspected and shipped. Or so I've been told by the peons on the phones.

USPS has always worked for me.

I have never had to do that at the UPS hub. I have it boxed up and ship it out with ease. I do know that at the "UPS Store" you do.

                Long Gun Registration, effective 2014

2011's AB 809 introduced long gun registration via DROS and self-reporting for new residents and Curio and Relic license holders. The bill has an effective date of January 1, 2014.

Most UPS stores will not ship firearms or ammo. If you found one close to you that will, you are very lucky.
