    What's the best Tokarev?

So I'm getting one (maybe more ) Tokarevs when I'm in AZ next month and I was wondering which ones people think are the best of the big 3 on the market.

I hear the Yugos are pretty nice and slightly larger than a standard Tok. I already have a Norinco model that was commercially imported a few decades ago and I expect the Romanians and Polish are similar. So I may get the Yugo just to have something different.

So what do you guys have? Which ones seem to be the most well made? Like I said, I may get more than one but getting all 3 may be a little much and one go so I'd like to get the most bang for the buck.

    Thanks for any input.

I really like my polish and romanian. The yugo is ok, but I usually throw either the polish or romanian in my range bag for some reason.

edit: positive of yugo is the extra round, negative is that the safety sucks on the yugo's.

You are asking for the best Tokarev. I my mind, that rules out any of the recently imported pistols that have had that dumb hole drilled through the frame to add a safety lever, and thereby destroying any potential collectors value. If it were me, I'd only look at Tok.'s that were built in the 1930's-60's and were brought to this country as souvenirs from WW2 and Viet Nam, or very early imports (if there were any). Again, you asked for the "best". Good hunting! Geologyjohn

I really like our Romy. When we got it at J+G it was the nicest one they had. If I remember right they had some Yugos, but they were pretty rough.

I have a couple of the Chicom ones like yours, and they have been good shooters. But the best group I have ever shot with a handgun was out of a Romanian Tok. 1 clean, slightly oblong hole at 10 yards with three rounds of Magsafes. I have never shot like that before or since. So the Romanian gun gets my vote every time. If they have any Yugos, and you don't mind some of the parts being a little different, go for it. But if they have a clean Romy, get it.

Yugos have a little longer grip due to the increase in mag capacity. Helpful if you have bigh hands.

My Russian is my favorite -- by far. It does not have one of the added after-market safeties.

Next is the Yugo -- they are good quality and work well. The Tok grip is just a bit short for many and the extra length of the Yugo can feel more comfortable. The extra round is nice but the mags are more expensive (at least they're available)

The Polish are considered pretty good-and mine is, but my Romanian shoots great too.

The Chinese Norinco commercial pistols are my least favorite. The safety sucks and often becomes loose and the fit is often sloppy. Others are pretty uncommon so you'll have to figure them out as you see them.

Buy the nicest example you find and shoot it as much as ammo permits. Keep your eyes open for a Russian and grab it if you find it.
People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

Sounds like the Romies have the best reputation. I may end up getting one of those. There doesn't seem to be a lot of experience with the Polish model, I wonder if that's just because they aren't as common.

I would definitely like one of the Ivan Toks if I could find one at a reasonable price. I had a professor at SDSU who had one his dad had brought back from Korea. He brought it out on a geology trip we took to the desert East of San Diego when he found out I had a Norinco version and a bunch of Romanian surplus ammo.

Looks like I'll definitely get a Romie. I guess I have to decide if I need another Tok or something different. Definitely getting a Nagant revolver. For $100, how could I not?

                    Thanks for the info everyone.

HAr HAr When did yo buy that ? I had my 9mm Chicom sold their on consignment back in 2008. Remember the Obama scare ??

FWIW I miss that weapon. It was hellishly crude and rough. The finish, the slide pattern, would shave your skin it was so sharp. But it shot everything.

I tried a mag of mixed 115 fmj, HP, the Blazer aluminum case, 147 gr and bird shot capsules. They all went down the pipe, loaded and fed flawlessly.

Settled on a Polish model based on what I've heard is better fit and finish. I'm also interested in the fact that the slide grooves are more like those of the Ivan Tok. Also got a Tula Nagant revolver.

Must be two J & Gs. The one local to me is in Granite Bay, California.

Didn't know there was a J+G in Granite Bay. The one is Prescott AZ is pretty big, they advertise in Shotgun News. I think we only paid $179 or $189. A real deal! Its super accurate.
