You said it, NOTABIKER. First thing I'd do is get that scope off of there and stick a Redfield or something similar on it for actual shooting. Second thing I'd do is get a Limbsaver recoil pad (hey, it works for me). Finally, find a range that lets me shoot the (currently cheap) Russkie milsurp and start getting to know that rifle.

^I have no plans on replacing the scope. The scope is one of the reason I bought it.

Is it really a bad thing to shoot it with the original parts?

I'm a bad person. I'll be shooting mine, just not often.

If milsurp scopes hadn't become rare, expensive collector's items, i. e. if they were still plentiful with lots of spare parts, I'd say go ahead and shoot the rifle with the original scope. But that's no longer the case these days.

On the other hand, Redfields have Leupold's lifetime warranty, and Leupold ain't goin' anywhere anytime soon.

A PU scope is not exactly a delicate instrument. I am not afraid at all of shooting mine. If somehow something goes wrong, there are people who repair them.

I plan on shooting mine tomorrow.

I got one from Classic, it was in pretty decent shape overall, everything that could be lined out and force matched was, 1943 date, barrel was in pretty decent shape after running a patch through it.

Now my buddy's two from Classic were a different story. He got one of each, both were all matching, excellent condition, bore on one was decent shape, bore on the other was mirror bright and perfect, '43 and '44 dates. The bolt lift on mine is typical stiff, crappy mo-fo mosin and his is light and nice, all three of them have typical horrible mosin triggers in them though.

I was reasonably happy with mine until I saw his.
