    Aim and century mosin snipers

So mine should be here Tuesday, I was wondering if everyone who got theirs is happy with it?

One of the two I got from AIM had a broken scope. They agreed to take it back, but it looks like I'm paying the return shipping which is a bummer. The other was really nice. I have 3 Tulas on order from Classic that are coming Wednesday.

One thing to know is that they do not come with slings.

Has anyone slugged any of these bores? I was under the impression the sniper models were tighter bores then the slop we get in a 91/30 usually .312 on up for grooves.

All I have to say about mine is......meh. Out of my 4 Mosins, it's in the worst condition. From the description by the distributor, condition is "very good to excellent." Mine is definitely in the lower "very good" spectrum. Some of the shellac has chipped off from the stock. There is also some weird paint or tar type stuff on the stock as well. The scope is attached to the mount slightly crooked so the crosshairs are about a 10% downward slope. Easily fixable I know....except the darn screws are in so tight I'm afraid of stripping them. On the other hand, the bore looks fine. Not mirror shine, but nice lands and grooves. It also feels like a WWII battle rifle and I just get the impression that it was used in combat. Would I do it all over again? Yes, probably. If they had a hand pick option I would've gladly shelled out the bucks to get a slightly nicer one. I'm hoping there is another shipment of these things in our future, that I way I can erase this one and buy another one. Too bad too, if I got the one that was in the pictures it would probably be my favorite rifle (at the moment of course).

The six I received from AIM were generally ok (again, I'm not hoarding. I'm only keeping 2). 2 of them are good cosmetic condition, while the rest have some scrapes and dings on the stock. All are forced matched to a degree. One seems to be all matching on the rifle itself, but the scope serial was lined out and restamped.

One also has a stock scope knob. I really hope I can fix this since I do not want to send it back. However, it seems that the small middle screw on the turret has been striped or peened or something. It is an SVT scope though, so I don't know if it's any different from the PU scopes for mosin nagants.

Still, I really like the two I'm keeping. One is very accurate (well, up to 100 yards anyway, since I haven't shot it further), while the other one shoots fine but is sort of an oddity (to me at least) since it has a plum receiver and sight base like Finnish mosins. I don't know if this is common, but I've never seen it outside M39s. I don't know what causes the plum color. I've heard that SVT bolts that are also plum in color are heat treated incorrectly or something. Although the plum on my SVT bolt and carrier is brighter than the plum on the mosin's receiver.

I didnt order from classic or AIM because its just a hit and miss, too expensive to take that gamble. I will wait and see if J&G would get these rifles in future.

You mean AIM and Classic, right? They have the new batch or original snipers, Century ones are repros.

I have a Tula from Classic on the way, should be here tomorrow, (although tracking shows it got to the local distribution center this morning).

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

a few NEG reports on these rifles and their condition. some good and some bad. sometimes all we here is glowing reports. folks that are unhappy usually do not post about it. i just do not like buying sight unseen. i would love to own one of these historic rifles for sure.

They aren't bad just a repro sniper.

Thanks all for the report back! I'll post up some pics hopefully tomorrow.

Flyin Bryan, that's a really nice looking bore there. Looks like you got a good one.

Don't forget SOG listed prices are "cash discount". In other words, add 3% if you use a credit card).

SOG has Century repros, (same as JG sales). They are a new scope and mount supposedly made at the same factory as the originals, on a standard 91/30.

I have one for sale in the marketplace right now, to make room for the real Tula from Classic. It is a fun rifle, reasonably accurate.

nobody is going to leave a 70 year old scope on a sniper and shoot it. these are collector rifles. i bought a big 5 sniper shooter to go out and have fun and not worry about it. to each his own.
