I used to think mine was counterbored until I discovered (with the help of this forum) that the front sight dovetail is is part of a soldered on tube. Most of the time you can't see the seam where the barrel starts. The VZ.24 action is second only to the early german actions as far as smoothness and quality is concerned but I agree, that seems like too much money. I paid like $149 for my scrubbed beater a few years back.

Have you checked for counter bore on your rifle?

I got mine (Romanian contract) from Big 5 about 10 years ago for $80.

I'd get one, but I feel that I am squared away with my bnz45 in the 8mm category. It's pulling like 2-2.5" groups with Turk surplus. I figure this isn't bad considering the trigger isnt all that good. (@ 100yds)

Picked up a BRNO long rifle for $79 at the 5 about 7 years ago. She's half Turk but all shooter.

I can't say what those particular rifles look like. But I can post a few pic's of what a mint condition vz.24. looks like.

SVT-40 also has an unscrubbed VZ-24 with crest IIRC. Which I am also envious of.

The bolt should be unfinished (natural) anything else is done by the russians or someone else.
