Confirming the cut is under the front band? If so the common fix is to drill two holes in each of the stock pieces and insert wooden or brass dowels and glue the pieces back together. The stock will never be as strong as it was when original, however the fix is very strong.

        Just no bayonet practice drills!!

Great deal for sure, even cheaper than the RC.

If it is all original matching, you can add a 1 in front of those numbers you quoted

Well if it had papers, it wouldn't be duffel cut would it?
navycorpsman, you stole it! Post some pics of the duffel cut.

I will tomm after i get off work. Its a clean duffel cut so shouldnt be overly difficult to repair. Just never held a all matching K98. I know most bringbacks at least have mismatched bolt

Is there anything wrong with not repairing a duffle cut? Seems to be risky if it works fine.

Yes and no, I have seen some on the 98k forums that had both. I think there is a sticky on there as well showing how to replace the DC.

If you don't repair it the front wood piece can rattle around a bit. It's not really risky to do the repair as usually the cut is under the front band.

Yeah, from what I have read, the two are not mutually exclusive, right? Just because it had papers didn't mean it didn't need to be duffel cut to be brought back.

I've even read about rifles being duffel-cut, after the fact, to add to their authenticity. YMMV, though.

A Duffel cut, was cut to sneak home to the states, and 99% of the time will have a matching bolt.
Capture Paper rifles had the bolts removed for transport back to the states. Rifles and bolts didn't always get re-united.
But.....like all things Mauser, for every rule, there's always exceptions.
