Thanks for starting this thread. I'm in the same boat as you. I'm not a collector but I grow to appreciate their point of view more and more each day. I want the Sniper set up for both of my M91/30's. I want to shoot it regularly and not be concerned about durability or performance. So if Reproduction is the way to go then I guess that's the ticket for me.

My Budget is no more than $400. I just want the scope, mount kit, and put that bad boy on and off to the range. ya know?

Personally, I don't want any cost overruns. I like the value side of the equation on this rifle. There are 17 million of em floating around the world and I want to pull all the benefits out of the 91/30's that I can.

Please post your Sniper Mosin when you've got it all rigged up.

    Happy 4th

These aren't the most practical scoped rifles these days, if practicality is a concern. You're limited by the high mount and the glass itself. On the other hand, cost per trigger pull is hard to beat.

what Tim says is good advice:

Your best bet for info is here:

If you look around on that forum you'll find that Rguns no longer has the monopoly; the days of $800 authentic PU snipers are over. Prices have dropped by about $150 to $200, and then you still have an authentic sniper, not a repro.

Would the originals be worth the extra $400 from the price of the reproductions?

Personally, if your into the hysterical collectable scene and dont know how to or do not want to shoot it buy an "Original", on the other hand if you know how to evaluate a good bore (throat/muzzle) on a repro then don't pass up one as long as it has a steel scope mount. Newre scopes are better/clearer lens, index better, and other then a good going over like cleaning/trigger tune/bolt tune, they will shoot as good or better/longer.

It is fairly a steep difference, but as I slowly get into classic rifles, I'd want to shoot them and collect them. Just figuring since it will be a original, it satisfies my history and collection wants, but as I want to shoot it, it'll fill my gunner wants.

I'm not a crazy collector, but it would be nice to have one "legit" piece I can hold on to that has a decent value since I'm more of a black rifle purchaser.
Since this would be 1 of 4 C&R rifles I'd own in the future alongside a Hex Tula Mosin, Mauser, and a 1903A3 (sniper variant or not), figured I do it right as it wouldn't cost as much as I would drop money on an AR.

Thanks for the heads up kris, that would fulfill my hex mosin search. I'll check it out tomorrow.

Also, if the prices of original pu's do come down, even better!
