Decent price for a Mosin PU Sniper?

I'm in the market looking for a good ol' Mosin PU Sniper with the scope on it.

Any idea on what the going price is nowadays? More than likely it'll be a reproduction and I've seen those go for about $500-$600. Is that the norm? Because a bump of $500 from the original ones with no scope is quite a bit.

Real ones in the $700-$800 range, repros $400-ish.

Would the originals be worth the extra $400 from the price of the reproductions?

Repros are just an standard refurb 91/30 with repro scope and bent bolt added.

Originals are actual 91/30 snipers with refurbed original (usually WWII) scopes and usually some trigger work, so should be more accurate than some random 91/30.

                Yes...

In terms of both collectibility and accuracy.

Time to find myself an Original pu or a regular mosin rifle, you guys convinced me to avoid getting repro PU's that I could possibly do myself if i choose to do my own conversion to the basic rifle.

How do you tell the difference between an Original and a Reproduction PU?

Making a Mosin into a sniper is not that easy. It usually runs more than the price of the $400 repro snipers.

Buy from a reputable source. RGuns in one place that has original snipers.
Royal Tiger is also advertising original snipers, but I would not buy one from them without an independent confirmation that they are originals.

Your best bet for info is here:
Gunboards.Com Sniper Forum: A extensive range of military sniper rifles are covered on this board. Much of the information is quite detailed and should be of interest. The forum focuses on the Mosin Nagant sniper rifles and its variations as well the SVT and others but all sniper rifles are...

There are several things to look for, it can be tricky because of re-snipered ex-snipers, and repro snipers that people use original scopes on.

The easiest way is to get pics of the rifle you are interested in, and post them.

If you want an original, Rguns has legit ones.

I figured taking the easiest route and going straight to rguns. Although I did take a look at Royal Tigers, I am still skeptical of them. I've also read about ATI.

FWIW, I just want the original to collect and shoot for cheap unlike the mausers and the likes that are too expensive for me to shoot. I may end up getting a PU and a regular Hex receiver mosin.

                            Hello BucDan,

Thanks for starting this thread. I'm in the same boat as you. I'm not a collector but I grow to appreciate their point of view more and more each day. I want the Sniper set up for both of my M91/30's. I want to shoot it regularly and not be concerned about durability or performance. So if Reproduction is the way to go then I guess that's the ticket for me.

My Budget is no more than $400. I just want the scope, mount kit, and put that bad boy on and off to the range. ya know?

Personally, I don't want any cost overruns. I like the value side of the equation on this rifle. There are 17 million of em floating around the world and I want to pull all the benefits out of the 91/30's that I can.

Please post your Sniper Mosin when you've got it all rigged up.

                            Happy 4th

^ that's the weirdest post I've seen on a forum. Letter form posting, but hey cool. I will when I get the research done and when it gets to me.
