Last winter I glommed a 1903 that was described as a "Rockland 1903" (???) in the auction description. I posted about it back then, but apparently have waited to long to doing a range report. When I attempted to post this range report, I was tersely informed that the thread was more than 121 days old and I could not post to it.
At any rate, the auction pictures looked nice and I suspected that this was , in fact, a "Rock Island 1903", so I bid on it and won it for the minimum bid.
When it arrived, I was relieved to find that it was a high number Rock Island, with a beautiful Sedgeley barrel, Redfield rear aperture sight and Unertl-type scope blocks installed. The Redfield required a small diameter, short shank aperture which was not included.
I finally got an aperture and got to the range today with my son.
(Range report continues)
