    SKS's

Sounds like my Dad is thinking about letting a few of those 1970's SKS purchases go down the pike. We don't use them and have no interest. I'll see if I can find them and take a few photos.

Still have to go through FFl because if they are not 50 years old and on the C&R List. Ie: The Yugos, and Chicoms. Russians/Romy's are good to go. Alby's and other SKS variants vary by the date. Dad's very foolish by the way for letting them go when SKS' are drying up and prices are soaring but to each their own. Here the numbers to prove it.

I don't know what they are yet, but they were among the very early imports back then. Dad payed around $49 or $79 each for them. I'll have to ask again, but it was in a group of maybe 20 or so, all in heavy paper and Cosmolene. I do know that 5 were taken by a dealer back in the mid 80's and the rest are still here.

But, 900 rounds is just one or two busy days. I have owned several of every type and now only own one really nice bubba'd Chinese shooter. I think that 50/66 gas valve issues are when, not if. The oversize repair valves available work pretty well, but not forever. 59/66's are heavy, not chromed, and have a feature you won't use. There are better out there.

If they were imported in the 1970's then I'm guessing they are Chinese commercial rifles. It was illegal to import milsurps from 1968 to 1986.

Yup my thoughts exactly then after that was the SKS boom and the fall of the Soviet Union.

So, is he looking @ doubling his money now. $98 to $138?
                    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Looks like it doesn't matter now. One of our shop guy's Dad is a collector that lives in Arizona and bought the whole works just before I got here this afternoon. I know nothing about them, so I won't miss them.

*Edited to add: I have no idea what year they were imported. The very old paperwork is around here somewhere, but they were made in 1949 if that means anything.

Thanks for heads up Latigo, that's good work.

Any for the other guys and the website, yes its a good quick reference on how the SKS market is. Even though its GB and auctions sight, it shows what people are willing to pay or bid on a certain SKS. Now keep in mind this isn't the Commercial side which is an entirely different animal. I mean 450 for a chopped up Chinese SKS? Plus DROS, PLUS TAX, yeah right!!! Hopefully this can help you decide if that rifle you been drooling at the pawn shop or Local FFL is really worth it.

well maybe should have done some research buddy because those 1949 Tula's are the first year production, and highly sought after and are a collectors dream. Now you will start missing them.
