It's C&R, but it is only 47 years old. Has to be at least 50 years old to avoid California's dealer transfer requirements.

So I want a reasonably priced gun in the 200-300~ range. If its a little more or less fine. Can anyone suggest a good place to get one?
Well, technically while holding a Type 03 FFL, you ARE a collector of Curio & Relics.

It may be possible to get a Russian SKS on Gunbroker for under $300, but it will be tough. You need to be patient and persistent. Check frequently and look for a "buy it now".For a shooter, look for a refurb.

So could this possibly be one of those deals that maybe I can get it shipped to Nevada and pick it up there since I have a ffl03?

Yup then take it to a gun smith so he can turn the grenade launcher into a muzzle break and your good to go for CA.

Just got an email from Century, they have a small lot of yugo M59s (no grenade launchers) for a little less than this.

However, if it was my money, I'd still go with EmpireArms, you know exactly what you're getting.

EDIT: Are those C&R? I didn't think they were...

...or is that the only 59/66s?

The M59 and M59/66 are both C&R. They are listed by name on ATF's C&R list.

Unless you the buyer (FFL/03) and the seller is FFL/03) you are good for a FTF or Postal, FedEx or UPS etc. If the seller is private party no FFL/03, get a xerox copy of current the sellers drivers license or other official I.D. works too. Then be sure to record it in your book of "Acquisitions and Dispositions" within 10 days. I have been doing it like this for the past 6 years or so and all has been good. And good luck on finding what you are looking for.
To be clear, and I admit I misspoke, unless the SKS is one of those old Russians or Romanians, it has to go through a 01 to complete transfer in California. If it is one of the old ones and both buyer and seller are California residents, the transfer can be between individuals, face to face or through the mail if the seller determines that the buyer is a California resident and not prohibited. A California resident with an 03 could buy one of the above rifles while out of state, from a dealer or individual, and not go through a 01.

Any other SKS, including Yugo M59's, since they cannot be shown to be more than 50 years old, have to go through a 01 to complete transfer in California, regardless of FFL class, if any. A 03 can travel out of state, buy a rifle, and bring it back, his only responsibility being a notation in his bound book.

I am not sure what jarhead was referring to, but 03's, intrastate, are meaningless. It is a Federal license which facilitates interstate transfers.

You can buy in State as well as out of State FTF. C&R to C&R. The Yugo M59 even an Albanian SKS does not have to go through FFL/01. If you have FFL/03 go buy a Yugo M59 from Century, I have and a pic of it is in the gallery. Also for thoughs that are not sure and you have a FFL/03, check out the book BATFE sent you. "Federal Firearms Regulation Reference Guide." Four of the five SKS were with my C&R license. The Yugo 59/66 had to go through a dealer. The Chinese SKS (that I don't have at this time) will have to go through a dealer. end
