    SKS

I got my ffl03 and now I want an SKS. Im not a collector. I want one that looks good and shoots good. Its going to be my only rifle for a long while and a daily driver. So I want a reasonably priced gun in the 200-300~ range. If its a little more or less fine. Can anyone suggest a good place to get one?

I would say bump up your price a bit, the ones that are C&R are a bit more than $300
I would look for a romanian.

      200-300~ range
      There aren't any, any more.

And, unless you are talking Russian and Romainan, your 03 is useless.

yea... a C&R SKS is going to be a tall order, especially for 300.

If you can go up $99 w/o Dros and tax then try Big 5 Irvine. They had a couple of Yugo SKS's. Inspect them. I can't speak to their accuracy but if you have working man's attitude towards your purchase then you can always deal it away and get something else if you are not happy with it.

There's a Russian for $199 more, on Camino Capistrano but again, I can't speak to it's accuracy. If you're a good talker, maybe convince the owner to let you take it to the range next door for a few mins. haha.

Btw, just so you know. I am totally onboard with getting C&R's to the point of making them daily drivers. I respect all the categories, truly. Collectors, Modders, Business People, etc.

But as far as I'm concerned, the " Daily Driver " category rules them all.

God Bless the historians. I'm not putting time and money into projects wherein the end result will not help me if for whatever reason our nation experiences first hand what it was like for the Russian families on the Eastern Front of WW2.

            May it never happen.

I cannot believe the prices people are getting for an SKS these days. $500 will get you an AK! Don't get me wrong, SKS is a great rifle. But I wouldnt think about spending more than $300 on one. And unless I already owned ak AK, using 7.62, it wouldnt even be on my radar.

Not sure what the highlighted means, but you'll need to up the price for the nicer Russians and Romanians. Yugos are a variation of the traditional SKS. They tend to be cheaper and they can be damn good shooters if you find the right one.

In before the SKS'er... we'll call it stuff.

Agreed for that price point I would be looking at a Saiga

This is an excellent addendum to my post. C&R is great. But what's really great is we live in a world where C&R weapons can be had at an entry level price point and then be worked on to improve their efficacy.

I'm not a business man or a proponent of modern platforms but your investment should always provide " options " where you the end user are concerned. That means not overlooking other " options " without thorough research on what will provide the most benefit to your household.

Off Forum question for Bansh88: What do you think of a brand new Saiga AKM in 7.62x39 for $800? ( hate mail is ok on this query, gents. lol. this is C&R, after all. just PM me back, bro.

Some Russians and Romanians are 50+ years old and can be shipped to a 03 from out of state. Otherwise, any SKS, in state or out of state, has to go through a 01 in California.

Unless you the buyer (FFL/03) and the seller is FFL/03) you are good for a FTF or Postal, FedEx or UPS etc. If the seller is private party no FFL/03, get a xerox copy of current the sellers drivers license or other official I.D. works too. Then be sure to record it in your book of "Acquisitions and Dispositions" within 10 days. I have been doing it like this for the past 6 years or so and all has been good. And good luck on finding what you are looking for.

Dang, I did not know that a SKS for the most part, is not C&R. I found a Chinese model for 300bucks at a dealer and was thinking of that. But it has to be shipped and I guess now to a ffl01 and that cost more ect. Is there a semi auto in 7.62x39 that is C&R besides a SKS?

The Chinese SKS is for sure FFL/01 here in Kali. Also the Yugo 59/66 & 59/66A1. Albanian, Russian and Romanian are okay for C&R in our wonderful State of......

Believe it or not...I am looking for a YUGO SKS!!! be the baddest lamp you ever see!! HAR HAR!!!!

ok now in serious OP, 300$ for any sks is the way of the dodo bird. Chinese, Romys are all hitting 350-400. C*R is great because you can get a Russian shipped strait to your door. Only problem is you need to open up your wallet more, no way your getting one for 300$.
