        Yes.

        I have two Garands in .308. One has the block (black), the other doesn't. The gray one does not have the block, and was built by a friend. The other came to me in a trade - it is stocked in wood, has the black block, and whoever built it had matching grease pencil marks on the internals. I doubt it is a Navy gun.. I have not shot the gray one in competition, but the other one is about as much as a tack driver as a Garand can be, and I've won several trophies with it.
