Mauser all the way even if its a yugo m48 or m24/47. Those are going to be next to dry up since the 98ks which we all love and want are just about extinct. If you do find them you are going to be paying a heavy price even if its a Russian Refurb.

Mosins will be around forever (Russian ones) however if you find a really nice Finn Mosin I jump on it too. But Mauser first, then mosin.

I agree with what SKSer45 says.

        BELOW.

It would be nice if the original poster came back and answered some questions. Otherwise, we just end up playing with each other again.

I'm a Mosin guy, but I'm going to have to go with Mauser.

I have found your responses amusing.

To clarify, I already own a Round Mosin. and it's accuracy is that of 2 year old with a low powered BB gun. (Or maybe it's just me... And I'm also exaggerating) I've been debating between the two because I recently shot a Hex Mosin with "OO" proof markings (if it really means anything at this time) and it's way more accurate than I expected the gun to be. Since then, I've been debating about picking up another C&R rifle, either another Mosin or try out a Mauser of any variant. If I were to pick up a Mauser, which one should I look at? Though, I think some of you guys answered the question for me :P

My budget is around the $500 mark, so I have some play as to what I can buy.

Sorry for the late response! School is winding down so I don't really cruise by here very much :/

nope Mauser all the way. You will thank me later. Don't listen to these mosin freaks, that rifle will be around till the end of time. Mausers are already endangered species list and Samco secret is out. Want to save your money get the Samco 98k Mauser, want to waste all your 500$ then buy a classic 98k mauser. Plus it will shoot better than some kid with a BB gun. Trust me on this or 5 years from now you will be kicking your self wondering why you didn't get the mauser.

also from 5 years from now mosins will still cost 89.99.

Between those two, I'd go Mauser. That being said, I have a few examples of both and I like Mosins.

I say get both. You can get a good shooting Mosin for less than $100...

Us Mosin guys are no freaks, but I personally appreciate variety. You already have Mosins, and a Mauser would be a great thing to add to your collection. Then again, you can never have "too many", of any gun. Good luck with your decision.

If I had $500 to spend on a Mauser and a Mosin I'd get both.

                          options:

                          98k $270+
                          Yugo M24/47 or M48 $200-300
                          Fin M39 $300-400
                          Typical Mosin variety $90-200

From that list it seems like you have some options and if done right you could have money left over for ammo. You could also blow it all on one rifle but remember no matter what condition the rifles in, you're never guaranteed a "shooter". So if you get two rifles your odds are better or at least that's how I justify it. LOL

Finn m39. Rarer than any of the mausers listed here, and it will out shoot them too.
