Love my new M1 from CMP with a few pics.

Ordered from CMP (Don't know what took me so long) around 4/11/12, received email order confirmation on 4/16/12. Received tracking information for M1 around a week later, and received the rifle around 3-4 days later via fedex. Ordered 2 boxes of (200 loose rounds in ammo can) and received those about a week after the rifle.

All I can say is wow. So glad I finally did this. Went with Springfield Service grade, receiver date puts it at Aug, 1944. Here are a few pics.

If you are waiting for something to push you over the edge to purchase one of these, STOP WAITING AND DO IT TODAY!!!! I'm am stoked on this thing. Love it!

Took it almost completely apart for a top to bottom cleaning. Cosmoline everywhere. Put the wood in the oven on 200F for about 15 minutes, the cosmoline just came right off. Gave it a good wipe down and a very light sanding with a high grit sandpaper just to get some of the big nasty stuff off. Did not want to take away any of the character. Wiped it down, and put some linseed oil on it after, let it sit for a bit, wiped off any excess. Let it dry. Cleaned up the rest of the rifle using standard techniques and put back together.

Enough talking, here is my awesome wife holding my new mistress...

Congratulation on a nice SA. How long did it took from the time you mailed the paperwork to receipt of the toy?

Looks Greek black. Is the chamber in the white? Is there a DAS stamp on the left side above the trigger area? If so then that is a post war SA stock

Took about 5-6 weeks total from sending in paperwork to receiving at my door step. Ammo was another week behind that.

Don't understand the "Is the chamber in the white?" What does that mean? What are you asking me?

The DAS stamp would be where exactly? In the wood I assume?...

Here are a couple close ups of that area and a close up of the underside of the grip and the only markings I see on the wood. Other than dings and dents...

stop telling people to buy these. I need to buy more but I don't have the $$$ right now. I just bought one for my son to eventually hand down to him - something both of his Great Grandfathers carried in the Pacific Theater. But I want more, and the CMP stock is not infinite.

          oh, and nice rifle!

Any info on it is appreciated. The markings on the grip , the "A" and the "P" with the circle around it, along with the number "2" are the only stamps I see on it. What do those represent or mean? Anybody know?

@ Kodemonkey, getting this to hand down to my son was the final motivating factor in getting this. That and the fact that the stock is not infinite...

Seriously thinking about getting another...maybe a HRA this time...

If you lock the bolt open look in the chamber area. It its white/shiny then the Greek did not reparked your rifle. If it is a Greek repark it will have black chamber.

The DAS would be on the left side above the trigger guard on the stock. I could tell a shadow of it. It will be a square about 1/2" and will have an eagle and stars above it. So you have a post war SA stock indicated by the DAS, profile of the stock and small back porch.

The P in a circle is when it was proofed fired. For post war stock there should be just the DAS and the circled P. All other stamps was probably done by the Greeks or one of the repair depot.

I am looking at this in bright light and up close. I don't see any resemblence of a DAS, 1/2" square or eagle/stars above it.

Can you explain "profile of the stock adn small back porch"...

I'm not saying your wrong, I just don't see any DAS or any of those other marks on it. Just the A, the cirlce P and the 2.

The A and the P certainly look a lot older than the 2. The 2 is also a lot deeper into the wood.

Thanks so far. I appreciate the info.

Chamber is mostly black too. Forgot to add that info.

As I look closer, I "think" I can almost make out an "H" and the most left side of the circle with the cross cannons to the right of that...making me think the stock was part of the

                      "S/N 81-3,888,081 Rebuild program. November 1945-December 1947
                      S. A. / S.H.M. (Springfield Armory / Steven H. McGregor). Other stamps used on the stocks were the circled 'P' proof mark (with serifs) on the pistol grip, and the Ordnance Wheel with Crossed Cannons. The wheel was .437" in diameter. "

I don't have the stock in front of me to look at and I'm just looking at low res picture. There is what look like a square box right above the trigger.

If it is WWII stock then there would be a large SA or WRA and an initial under it. Determining a WRA from SA takes actual looking at the internal of the barrel channel and the trigger guard area among other things. The 2 I'm almost certain is a Greek number.

Black chamber is a repark most likely Greek.

                            Thanks for all the info.

I think I'll try to take some better pics with an actual camera and software play with the image to see if I can get a better image of the marking...Just for curiosity sake...

Can't wait to shoot it this weekend! Ammo just got here today! Stoked. Already planning another purchase I think...
