Avoid Persian 8mm ammo!

I purchased one of the 1000 round Perisan 8mm Mauser ammo crates from Samco. First of all Samco shipped the ammo in only the zinc case and not the wooden case which sucked, but since this is brass cased and brass jacketed I would be able to use it year round at the local outdoor ranges.

So fast forward to today and I'm up an Angeles and I load my VZ-24 and the first round goes click, one Mississippi, two Mississippi, bang! Next one is a dud. And after that every single round I fired (10 in total) had a very long hang fire. Needless to say that was all the shooting I did today.

hmmm well it is 1950's right? I saw that on SAMCO...ehhh its 50/50 when it comes to old surplus stuff.

I have some Radway Green .303 that does the same thing every few rounds or so, scary huh.
I used to have issues with Yugo 8mm with my VZ.24, had to hit some of them twice until I stripped, cleaned and lubed the bolt, that fixed it. I have some old turk 8mm on strippers, in bandoleers from the 50s that always, always goes bang but its magnetic...

Knock on wood: I have had good luck with the Yugo brass non-magnetic surplus in German RC's and Czech mausers. Sorry to hear you have a bad batch.

Yugo ammo is GTG in my rifles (8mm, 7.62x54R, and 7.62x39).

Put a wolf firing pin spring in it. My '26 VZ24 would not fire yugo surplus on the first strike until I changed out the original spring.

Thanks for the heads up. LONG hang fires are scary. Good to follow the count to 30 rule. Ive had a few click-bangs with Turk 8mm but nothing more than a second long.

I had an old Yugo Mauser that would sometimes take 2 taps to get it to fire. Found out that the firing pin was just a slight bit short from all the years of use (and I'm sure abuse) and the primers were hard so the combination made for some interesting range trips. I think it was Yugo ammo... don't remember.

But I ended up shooting it all. Would just tap it and if it didn't go off... wait for a few seconds then quickly run the bolt up and down to recock the gun, then it would fire on the second tap.

Click...BANG is different than just "click". A new firing spring will cure hard primers but this ammo the OP talks about is defective and dangerous.

^This, if it was a hard primer issue I wouldn't have posted this until I swapped out the spring or pin. A couple of times I was already bringing the rifle down from my shoulder when they would go off. I really don't want to use this ammo again.

+1, hang fires are scary...
