Then as a bday present I got a chinese ammo vest that has 10 pockets for 10 SKS strippers. That got me interested. And that got me frustrated because I had read that some were sure they could load a stripper clip faster than change a magazine. My intent was just to be CAPABLE of speed loading from strippers as the weapon was designed. I can't imagine that any army would accept the stripper clips I got except perhaps the opposing army!
I will admit, that is kind of cool.

Those stupid little pieces of paper that come in the 7.62 x 39 boxes blow away as soon as you pick any ammo out of the box.
Really? I never had a bolt go forward while loading. Knock on wood, I never had a Garand thumb either. But, you are correct, those damn little papers are a pain in the hynee.

just takes lots of practice to load stripper clips fast and effective. However once you get it down you really can move fast and smooth. Nothing is sexier about my SKS than squeezing off rounds down range then slamming a stripper clip in there. Go so fast and smooth you forget why they made magazines...lol

I just was unlucky and purchased some oversize strippers. The bolt slot on my Russian SKS measures .592" with a cheap digital caliper. On average, my non fitting strippers measure .608" at one end and .596" at the other. I did find some strippers that fit easily into the bolt. They measure .580" at both ends. That's less than 1/64" smaller than the bolt slot but that's all it took to make a world of difference. FWIW, in the clips that fit, in the center of the bottom/back side there is a 31 stamped inside a circle. My "fat" strippers were unmarked and came from Keep Shooting. I usually have good luck with them. The reviews on the strippers I got were all 5 star. I suspect I just got a bad bunch at the end of a run before the machines may have been tested and re-calibrated. Keep Shooting also has the Chinese ammo vests with 10 pockets for loaded SKS strippers. They are a good deal @ $10 and are in excellent (new?) condition made in 1974. Thanks to you all for your help.

Get yugo surplus ammo. The clips are excellent quality.

I bought some commercial chinese ones or something, and had to spend like 20 minutes tweaking 10 of them to work reliably
