      Wow not even numbers matching.
EDIT: which is funny because the description says its number matching despite its clear that the buttplate has a strike thru and that the bolt is hand engraved. I'd even wager that the magazine floorplate serial was a later force match...

There's so many other things I would buy for that kind of money...

            It's all force matching, it's a 91/38.

            It's a $300-$400 rifle.

Stock looks to have a bayonet groove so that makes it a M44 stock so that's not even original.

Or is that typical? I was under the impression they cut down the M91 stocks but maybe that was the 91/59's

              Edit apparently thats typical:

M91/38s are typically found in M44 stocks with the typical M44 stock features. However, some are in M91 stocks that have been cut down. This is evident by the lack of a crossbolt which was not standard until 1908. Interestingly these cut down M91 stocks usually have an added M44 bayonet groove, although the M91/38 does not have a bayonet.
Very odd. I really doubt that they would add the bayonet groove on a cut down stock, but I guess its possible

I don't get it. That seller routinely gets ridiculous prices for sometimes mediocre collectibles. I'm not saying that this example isn't unique or rare, but over the course of collecting C&Rs, this seller seems to have the magic touch at selling.

It's an antique Sestroryetsk 91/38. It's an M91 cut down to M38 specs. They are rare, but they average $300-$400. I could see that one being a $400 91/38, but it went for obscene money.

That seller is weird. Sometimes he has really nice stuff, then he has average stuff at obscene prices, then he has humped stuff for obscene prices.

I agree with the shill bidders thought.
I have followed many of this sellers listings of german guns over the years. And I would say only 1 in 300, 400, 500+? is not boinked or misrepresented in some way.
