    Garand...should I?

I dont know diddly about them, but want one in the safe. I dont want to roll the dice or wait through CMP, and am willing to pay a couple bucks extra. I seen this, and Im ready to go for it. Is it junk or good to go? Thanks! http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=274069695

Like the above post says, why would you spend more money as an HRA SG through the CMP is just a little over $600 shipped and you know the quality. There is no "rolling the dice" with CMP. You will get a SG. Spend the money you save and buy couple of cans of HXP also from CMP. The wait is not that bad about a month. When I first bought my first M1 through the DCM in the early 90s, it was once a lifetime and I waited about a year.

Yeah, I was just figuring the CMP garand was $600, plus tax, shipping, getting stuff notorized...It wouldnt be to far behind the cost of this one. I might check out some here, as I had an offer from a CGer to sell me his. The GBer one seems a little frankenstein, no? SA and IH parts. I gotta do a little more research

          +1

And if you have or get your C&R you automatically qualify for some of the requirments.

Get one. No doubts about it - Get a CMP Garand.

You need to get one signature notarized. Notary fees in CA are regulated and the most they can charge you is $10/signature. I use the local UPS store for notary stuff - in and out in 10 minutes.

Yeah id go CMP. You do have to wait about a month but its much cheaper.

Yes, the CRPA counts as club membership. You can use your HSC as proof of shooting activity and your set. Thats what i used to fulfill my requirements. My order has been confirmed, i have about two weeks left, maybe a little less

CMP only charges shipping of $24.95/rifle and no sales tax. If you don't get a Garand now, you will be sorry in a year or two when the current crop of very nice Greek returns are gone. After this this, these is no more except for a few that trickles in from veterans organizations.

This is the "good ole days" that we will talk about years from now. When I bought my first Garand from the DCM (one rifle for lifetime) IIRC it was under $300 and not over $600 but still a bargain. You are allowed 12 rifles/year (I maxed my limit last year) so buy away while you still can. This is a better investment than any 401K I know.

Yep - it does qualify for the "club" portion.

That's what I did, and glad I did so.

You are on your way man... get it. Shoot it. Then lend it to me and some buddies for awhile...

That's what we all do right guys?

The one in the GB auction is a real mixmaster

I will also chime in to buy direct from the CMP . Some of the service grades right now are just unbelievably nice. I got a 5.8mil SA service grade and the only non SA part was the trigger assy which was ( past tense ) HRA. I swapped that and for all practical purposes I have a correct grade rifle.

The one on GB is a mixmaster at best. I've bought four via CMP, three service and one special grade. I got the special grade because it came with a brand new Criterion barrel for shooting comp. The three Service grade were nearly indistinguishable from the special. No offense, but you would be making a mistake by NOT going through CMP. It's painless and their service is impeccable.

What the guy most likely did was buy several garands from CMP and made a few correct ones and is selling off this mix master.CMP sells good to very good rifles it depends what you want, a shooter [service gr.] a collecter [correct gr] or buy alot and make your own.

Those CMPs look awesome, wish I had the $$$. Is there anyone who provides a similar service for Lee-Enfields and Webley revolvers?
