Well I know that I am suppose to send my copy to the local CLEO , but I don't think the city knows what to do with it. Curiously I sent an email to the Chief asking what they do with the info and got back ,

"I am sorry, but neither our records unit nor range know anything about the form. The forms may be sent to the Sheriff Department, as the Sheriff is the CLEO for the county. "

Frankly, that is their problem, not yours. The law requires you send them a copy, what they do with it is up to them.

This might be more than some think is necessary, but for those who want to include one, a generic letter to your CLEO may be:

Attn: Chief Law Enforcement Officer [their name]

Enclosed, as per BATFE requirement, please find a copy of my form 7CR application.
In Ref. to section "Information for the Chief Law Enforcement Officer" on page 2 of the application,
no action is required on your part pertaining to the enclosed.

I do the same, minus the phone number. I like the line about no action required. I think I got the idea from the C&R walkthrough on surplusrifles.com.
