They are loud due to being a large caliber rifle with a brake. I don't recall it being much louder than say a .308 with a brake but the people shooting next to you might find it a bit loud. My buddy has one and it is fun to shoot. Accuracy was quite impressive as well.

I have some 1961 German 198g ball I want to try.

Stuff is loud from a K98 and should wake eveyone up.

Hold on tight when you shoot it, it has a tendency to pull away due to the efficient muzzle brake! Another nice small arm from MJ!

Funky, loud and fun to shoot. If you are using corrosive ammo be sure to clean it using the appropriate bore cleaner. A co-worker of mine turned one into a 16" carbine about 20 years ago when they were cheap. He said it was really loud.

I didn't think they were too loud.

They're great to shoot. IMO, they're a lot like shooting a FAL, but without the muzzle climb.

I loved my AG42, what craftmanship and attention placed in the design, still pissed at myself for selling it. The Hakims are virtually identical, but in 8mm. Its got the same bolt/carrier design as the FAL, gas system like the AR

Toss-up between the Hakim and Garand, IMO. The Hakim is just soooo good, though. It might win.

The Mauser isn't even in the running.

A Hakim over a Garand? Only in that Hakim thumb draws blood while M1 thumb just hurts like hell. (experienced both, which may cause you not to heed my advice - but I was trying to be careful)

A Hakim feels unbalanced. A Garand less so. Also, wear shooting glasses (yeah, yeah I know) cuz the Hakim will blow gas, particles and whatever else you left in the gas system when you cleaned it last - into your face.

It was funny feeling my hair rise from my scalp and seeing oil and little specks on my shooting glasses after I shot mine the first and last time. The Hakim thumb I got cleaning it relegated it into a safe queen ever since - only about twenty years ago.
