vz 24 Mauser shootability

I was/am interested in looking for vz 24 Mausers because they seem like a good thing to own.

However, I am left handed, and I noticed that all of these rifles have a sling swivel on the left part of the stock wrist.



This would get in my way, won't it? (In other words, can I as a southpaw shoot this at all--or is that thing going to get in the way?) And if it means I have to get a different stock, I'll just look at getting an Ukko-Pekka instead.

There are dozens and dozens of different mausers out there. Most of which don't have the sling swivel there. If you want a Mauser, look around and find one that will fit you. If not, just get the M39.

The Germans did that and it was called a German modification, patch with wood filler.


I have 4-5 of these and am left handed it is a non issue to me.

Yes as a lefty my cheek was on the other side. Am I missing something here? And my hand was in front of it.







I had to get one of mine out and try again.

It is annoying but doable. You can remove and still be period correct as this mod was done by the Germans on many VZ24's.

Also a lefty, also have shot a couple, no problems. I think southpaws are used to working around right handed setups and it just didn't even enter my mind when I was shooting.

I used to think I'd like a left-handed rifle build as a mirror image but now I don't think I'd be able to shoot it as well.

Anyway give it a try. Nice rifles.

I am left handed, but shoot long guns right handed. That is how I learned, as no lefty versions were available to me.

To me, it looks like the sling swivel would be out of the way of your left hand, unless you have really large hands. As others have stated, it should be very easy to remove if necessary (or move it to the right side)?

I personally own a CZ-452*, and it looks to me that CZ-UB/Brno guns are extremely legit.

*Maybe now I could own its older brother.

I own a vz-24 as well. I just remove the sling mount when I take it out to fire. It does bother me a little bit.

A conventional sling and a side sling I believe only specific to Vz24's. The side sling was to carry and not get stabbed by the straight bolt I guess. I have a few VZ's see my signature. A damn fine rifle.
