    Using 03 FFL for business

Wonder how long it will be before ATF shuts this down and starts doing more audits of 03 FFL's

Some people just don't get it.
    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Maybe I missed it, I just skimmed it, but it looks like he's selling a restoration service, not buying and selling the guns themselves.

"Here's how this works. You have a C&R Rifle that you'd love to see restored and looking beautiful. I send you my FFL C&R license and then you ship me the rifle with money order and pre-paid return shipping tag/label."

Doesn't the the 03FFL say you can't buy with the intention of selling as a 01FFL dealer would? Since he is running a restoration business I think he might be ok in that aspect. And since he is only doing finishes, I don't think he needs a 07FFL for gunsmithing.

Of course I am just speculating and could be totally wrong, IANAL.

Is restoration considered "smithing"??? i.e. 01ffl?

              ATF thinks so...

Q: Is a license needed to engage in the business of engraving, customizing, refinishing or repairing firearms?

Yes. A person conducting such activities as a business is considered to be a gunsmith within the definition of a dealer.

I don't think it is. He's not performing repairs or restoration that fix or improve the function of the weapon. However, I see a grey area for how he's using his FFL as far as the shipping goes. He's not making money off buying and selling weapons so I think he might be okay, correct? I think we need the Librarian in on this one. Looks like he does great work. Might use him if it turns out he's on the up and up.

I liked the before pictures. The after pictures are upsetting. Milsurps dont need a pimp shine.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

I wouldn't want to have to try to explain all those bound book acquisitions and dispositions.

I just sent the guy an nice email. I like his work, but would not want things so "shiny". Would hate to see a fellow collector get in trouble over a lack of understanding. We're all here to help each other out.

Those rifles look terrible as restorations, and I think it is pretty clear that this isn't being done in relation to the improvement of a personal collection.
