    Shipping a Mosin instate

If someone buys my Mosin Nagant.
I can just ship it to them right?
As long as they meet the criteria, over 18, California resident, copy of drivers license and that they are allowed to own a firearm.

    What is the best practice?

I know, I know, use the search button. But mine broke.

    HI OHOD,

Yes, you can ship it to them. Overnight is good.

Yes, but if you are not an 03FFL I do not think there is any requirement for them to provide a copy of their DL, although it would be nice of them to do so.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

Why would anyone choose to ship a long rifle overnight??? That would cost more than the rifle!!

But a person does have to prove they are a resident, and 18, and a drivers license is good for that.

USPS Priority Mail with delivery conformation works just fine and is cheaper.

Good info in the CGF wiki: Shipping Firearms Within California

              Note this:

FedEx company policy does not allow an unlicensed person to ship a firearm to another unlicensed person. You might get lucky and have the FedEx employees not know this.

Long guns may be shipped via the USPS. See the Domestic Mail Manual, 11.1

You have to ship firearms either from your daily pick up account or by going to an actual UPS or FedEx customer counter. "UPS Store" and "FedEx Kinko's" franchises are not allowed to accept firearms shipments. Both UPS and FedEx company policies require that you notify them that you are shipping a firearm. Federal law does not require you to notify the carrier if the firearm is being shipped within the State.
Gun law complexity got you down? Get the FAQs, Jack!

I find this to be the best way to ship a rifle.

A different member posted this BoS. I think you will like using it for your cash and carry sales.

                Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

How are you going to verify that the photocopy of the Drivers License is of a real license? What if it's a fake licensed made up in Photoshop?

Parcel Post is even cheaper and you can still get delivery confirmation. Just takes a little longer to deliver.

Even a valid DL doesn't mean the buyer is not a prohibited person. At some point you have to either trust it's real, or never do business again.

Bad comparison. It's perfectly legal to sell a 50+ year old C&R long gun to a prohibited person as long as you don't have reason to suspect they are a prohibited person. They would be guilty of a crime for buying it though.

But selling a 50+ year old C&R long gun to a 17 year old kid is illegal even if you have no reason to suspect they buyer is only 17 years old. OHOD also has to deal with the fact that she is a C&R FFL. If she ships a C&R rifle to somebody and doesn't record their real name in her bound book then she could lose her FFL even if the buyer is of age and not prohibited.

I even ask to see CDL from sellers when I do ftf purchase cash n carry, but I have to trust at some point that the seller legally obtained the rifle. I guess I just want to do the responsible thing . . .
