Wow. This thing looks pretty cool. The others are right, the large-diameter barrel makes it look like a musket. I hope it's extraordinarily accurate, but I don't even want to think about how much it weighs.

              Thanks all,

The only thing I'm not crazy about is how skinny the stock is toward the front of the barrel. I'd like to use a sling, but I'm worried the added weight of the barrel, plus the fact that the sling loop is way toward the front, will crack the stock end right off eventually. I could put one of the handguard rings back on it (the larger rear ring actually fits PERFECTLY around it), but I'm sure that would screw with my accuracy. Probably better to keep the barrel free-floated.

I've also considered resin-bedding a sliced-off cleaning rod right into the rod slot, but there's so much leverage there that I'm not sure that will help much.

Maybe I can just stitch a loop of velcro to the sling loop and secure it around the barrel and stock end when I want to carry it. Kind of a half-arsed workaround though.

Is that supposed to be a dig at me for modifying a Mosin?

Do you know whether these barrels are stress relieved? bore groove diameter? did the chamber ID increase when turning the chamber end down?

No idea. I left the install to someone more knowledgeable than myself in these matters.

                        Just weighed it.
With the scope, cheek riser and rubber butt pad (added later and not pictured), it's just shy of 11 lbs.

Not much of a range report, but I put a few rounds through it the other day. Unfortunately the rifle ate the cheapo scope I slapped on it about 7 rounds in. I can't say I'm surprised. It was some $15 scope I had laying around and didn't think it would last very long at all, but I just wanted to put something/anything on the rifle to field test it.

The first group was holding nice and tight, but after the 3rd round the scope reticle actually shifted about 20 degrees and I knew it was all downhill from there. I fired two more rounds and got the second grouping, then the reticle shifted again and after that, I was firing way off to the right. I put two more through it and got the third grouping.

This was at about 75 yards with Privi ammo.

Now it's time to glass-bed the action, maybe bed the pillars, and get some real glass for it, then REALLY see what this puppy is capable of.

I would personally cut the stock shorter a la an L42 enfield. I think that would look even better and would suit the look with the magazine.

I think you need to get a 10 round mag for that puppy.
