How can you avoid buying a stolen long gun if you have a C&R license?

Buy it from a dealer who just got it from an importer. Other than that, just hope that anyone giving your their ID or FFL info for your bound book isn't dumb enough to sell you stolen property.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups

As said buy from a dealer (01 FFL) or a collector (03 FFL).

If you are buying private party be sure you know and trust the person. Even here on Calguns you hear of an occasional deal gone bad; not to mean stolen though.

If you are buying online from a private party on gunbroker or the likes be sure they have good feed back and have sold guns.
      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.
