    Mosin at Big 5

I found a Mosin Nagant at my local Big 5 and had some questions about it that you guys might be able to help me with.

First, its listed as 180 bucks plus DROS fees and tax. But it comes with sling, bayonet, ammo pouch, and cleaning tool all original to the rifle. The rifle itself looks to be in good shape, just a good detail strip and clean would be needed. Is it worth the 200+ dollars? I really want one and have been looking, but I just dont want to go through that hassle wait ten days, and then see the same thing on here or elsewhere for 80 bucks cheaper ya know?

Wait for the sale, and don't be shy about inspecting what they have, including what they have not brought out front. They are all good, but there are gems to be had as well.

            1. get a C&R license
            2. buy multiple Mosins from J&G Sales, AIM Surplus for under $80 each
            3. repeat step 2.

recent market price on Mosin are still on the cheap side,
if it is 91/30, Yes it is bit high,
                but if it is M44 or M38 it's around $200.00 http://rguns.net/index.shtml

nowadays, and it is getting harder to get,
it was under $100 few years back.
I'm not an expert on any firearms but when it comes to C&R
people are look for manufacture, year made, import marks ( without it values more, correct me if I'm wrong ) matching numbers etc.
If you can get C&R license you can get 91/30 Mosin for about $120 delivered to your door.
                Good luck,
Oh other way you can do is order something like this online http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.as...+Nagant+Rifles
find the FFL who doesn't charge you much (average FFL is around $40.00)
with out California tax, still you can do better then $200.00 ( My estimate about $130.00 )
make sure what is the model they sell,
if it is M44 or M38 if is decent deal, compare to todays market.

                  Oh other great idea,
ask the manager at the store to match the last sale price at $99 plus fees.

Big 5 is good because you get to see the gun, and, as I said, there are gems. I have heard nothing bad about JandG or Aim, but that PROBABLY means some people got turds and don't want to admit it.

Do some reading at http://7.62x54r.net/ and get familiar with the dates and manufacturers. This could be the last wave of cheap decent long mosins............but that has been said before.

If you're a regular customer, the manager is more likely to cut you a deal and give you that sale price whether or not it's on sale. Definitely inspect every one if you can. Most stores are willing a accomodate your request because they know how one m/n can be very different from another. Good luck and have fun!

When I bought my M38, the manager knew they were going on sale within my DROS pickup time period, and he gave me the sale price. My tactic is to be a 'friendly and easy to deal with customer'. Works most of the time.

This is good advice. Do your research before you buy.

The problem with getting the C&R to get those cheaper rifles is that you'll end up spending more buying WAY MORE cheap rifles! Then the expensive ones start calling... ...
