Cleaning a Mauser?

For routine cleaning of firearms that start with clean bores I use an Otis kit

Sometimes I get a rifle that has a dirty bore that needs at lot of work to clean up. Then I use this Tipton brush and jag set http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...tNumber=112072 with a Tipton carbon fiber rod http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct...tnumber=320041

Don't forget the elbow grease...

In all seriousness, you will also need some kind of gun oil (I use CLP), grease (I use Maxima - just like on the motorcycles), and a small blade screwdriver. Just add these items to the already mentioned items and you should be good to go...

the mauser should come with its own cleaning rod, i would be surprised if it didnt.

How long is it? (I know, personal question ) My Dewey cleaning rod has a 35 inch shaft not including the handle and it is just long enough to clean my M98/22 and M98/29 rifles from the breech end.

It does, but it isn't long enough to use on its own. You need a couple of friends or squadmates with the same rifles to combine the cleaning rods into a usable length. And using a bare steel segmented cleaning rod might be authentic, but it isn't the best thing for long term bore maintenance.

I agree with the good advice given here. Get yourself the one piece 50" carbonfiber rod and the appropriate brush and jag. Its a solid investment. This will allow you to clean your long rifle from the breech to the muzzle.

It's all about girth! My cleaning rod can clean a 30mm cannon barrel
