    The StG thread. Enjoy

This is the original thread in its entirety

I just posted the "highlights" that include a write up about actually shooting the weapon, and a bunch of detailed pics of one 1945 specimen.

I found this to be very neat and informative. It seems like every major assault rifle borrows something from this gun, be it the M-16, FAL, CETME/G-3, AK, etc.

they would have to. this was the first true assault rifle. "Sturm gewehr" literally translates into "assault rifle"

I didn't even know that the AR buffers and dust covers were related to this one!

        The STG-44?

Just something cool about a "storm gun" or "sturmgewehr".

It's on my list of things to buy when I win the lottery.

I would love to get my hands on one of those. I bet they're pricey.

One thing is, I don't know what they were thinking with the sheetmetal "handguards." It seems like this weapon is well thought out, considering its time---but I think they dropped the ball on the handguards.

Cheaper and easier to make during wartime... also, the heat probably felt good on the Eastern Front.

But this gun wasn't really proliferated about that time. It didn't catch on until late in the war.

I guess it is cheaper to deal with; still does not seem like a good idea.

yeah, I changed it to "Eastern Front".

The G1 and STG58 also had stamped steel handguards.

                          By the way... bad***** video!!!

True, but most of the STGs did to the Eastern front.
