The hood rotates and provides a +/- ~0.5MOA adjustment. Whereas the normal elevation knob is ~1MOA per click.

        That's what I thought but I wasn't sure.

Now if you had empty brass that was fired out of that garand it would function perfectly.

uuhh... noo....... the Garand pulls the brass out of the chamber while the brass is still expanding and HOT......

Instead just put an empty clip in the rifle. It is kind of tricky but use the blade of your right hand to hold the charging handle back, with your left put the clip in and with your right thumb push down the follower and slowly bring the charging handle forward until it rides over the clip. Now the when you pull the charging handle you get the ping.

Well it did but I had to tap it lightly with a mallet to get it to move and then I could pull it back.
I'm not a Garand guy or a gun expert in particular so any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks to all. I wasn't thinking and used brass that had been cleaned but not sized and since it was fired in my Remington 1917 it was probably a little snug. And I haven't smashed a thumb yet but it does feel awkward. I'm sure the sight is very accurate too bad the shooter is so mediocre.

Do you always here the spring like an old bed spring squeaking when you pull the bolt back? I took it out and lubed it but it didn't improve much. I has a green coating/parkerizing on most metal parts maybe that's it.

Beautiful rifle. Three friends of mine have bought M1's in the last month. Now a fourth is looking. All have shot AR's, but the M1 was more fun to shoot.

I can't wait but I'm glad I've just about collected everything I need to do some reloading, 06 ain't cheap. My powder measure should be here this week.
