    first m1 garand

I just acquired my first Garand it's a beauty pics to follow. My question is after lubing it I thought I'd fill a clip with empty brass just for grins but when I inserted the clip and released the bolt it would not open again. Well it did but I had to tap it lightly with a mallet to get it to move and then I could pull it back.
I'm not a Garand guy or a gun expert in particular so any thoughts appreciated.

The brass was not shot in that rifle, the chamber in the rifle that the brass was shot out of may be bigger so the brass might be expanded and its a tight fit in the garand, I did the same thing when I first got mine. Now if you had empty brass that was fired out of that garand it would function perfectly.

    But pictures would be great!

Resize the brass or use a snap cap. I make it my law to NEVER use "once fired" brass for "function checking" a firearm as you are just asking for trouble and one day you thought it was once fired will end up being live. Buy a snap cap and don't look back.

+ 1 to the dummy rounds. Like everyone else stated your uses brass is not from that m1 chamber and no two chambers are alike!

You know what's gonna happen here is that people will post a command like this
            Demand for a pic.

              pics

My pics...maybe too many. The expanded brass now makes perfect sense I've read about that many times. I guess experience is much better. Not the best pics and either I don't have enough posts to have the pics in the post or I don't know how to do that.

Looks nice and looks like the stock has been refinished, if you don't mind me asking, where did you get it?

I didn't even notice that right away. It does look rather odd.

I think it is the hooded National Match rear sight. The hood is adjustable some how.

Yeah not sure about the finish on the stock looks nice though. Did a little horse trading for it. Is that sight really $270 bucks? I don't know anything about those. I traded a 500 buck account to a guy whose in the same biz as me. I think I got the long end of the stick.

Just saw that sight for forty that makes more sense.
