    cz 82

    hey all-

so i'm taking a motorcycle trip down to J&G this weekend to pick up a cz 82 and a yugo m57. but concerning the cz82.. i was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the 2 variations they had for sale there.

what is the difference between the one with a new barrel made in the usa, and the cz82 with the (original?) polygonal rifling? any thoughts (pluses/minuses) on which i should go after?

i imagine i'll get a 12 round mag as a rebuild and a 9 round one to use in CA. any sources for cheaper mags? it seems cz makes up for lower pistol prices with higher mag prices- but 30/40 bucks per mag is killing me. the gun itself is only 200-something! and the illegal mags are cheaper! is the .380 acp mag (for the cz 83) the same size?

    thanks for your help,
    doug

The 380 mags are the same as the 9x18. The 10 round CZ83 mag works as a 9 round CZ82 mag.
All of the ones I bought have the original barrel so I can't comment on what the new barrels are like.

I believe the USA-made barrel has lands & grooves rifling, and the original barrel has polygonal rifling.

Your lucky I want to go there myself to get one. But no time or money.

Which is more accurate? I love the Polygonal of Glock and HK.

what is the difference between lands & grooves rifling vs the original polygonal rifling? is one better than the other?

I'm going to throw this out there so correct me if I'm wrong but from my experience polygonal is easier to clean.

Since your driving down there I'd be looking at the condition of all the polygonal barrels to see if you can find a good one.

I have one with a poly barrel and love it. I would go with that one.
                  Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

When going to J&G they will bring out 4-5 guns for you to look at. The finish on these guns are painted on; not blued. So be sure to look at the finish.

There are some after market grip companies but not much so make sure the grips are in good shape.

One the first one I bought; and it came from J&G, I didn't look at how the magazine dropped. Mine had a little trouble. With original and CZ-83 magazines I had to pull the magazine out; it would not just fall. So be sure to see how the magazine drops.

Of the top of my head that's all I can think of right now.

thanks jesse.. that seems fairly straightforward.
anything to look for when inspecting the barrel?

Really the only thing to look for while looking down the barrel is rusting and pitting. You really can't see the "rifling" in a poly barrel.

Which brings me to something else. Make sure you take your own bore light. They never seem to have any for you to use.

edit: Make sure you check the crown too.
