    Mosin Kaboom

Well, I guess it had to happen to someone, somewhere, eventually.
First time I've even HEARD of this though.

yup, it looks like the other half let go a long time ago, maybe when the barrel was torqued, I am sure no one will know for sure.

Yeah definitely. It looks like the receiver was about 65% split for a long time and the brighter area of steel is the part that just failed. It still speaks volumes for the steel that it was able to fire the round and still able to absorb most of the force so that it didn't fail in a dangerous way.

The Mosin Nagant action is one of the safest bolt action designs ever made. This is testament to that fact.

I had one detonate out of battery on me once. It blew the magazine out the bottom, and the back half of the casing got stuck in my hand as it exploded up and out. Don't really know how that was possible, but it happened. It was unpleasant to say the least. That was about 4 years ago, and I don't recall if it was tula or ishevsk, or the year of manufacture. It was a 91/30 I bought at Big 5. I still have a gnarly scar in the center of my right hand from where the back of the casing was lodged

Somebody here might have been at the range when it happened, as a matter of fact. It was at Inland Fish & Game back in late January or early February of 2007. Anybody there at the time? If you were, you'd recall a large puddle of blood on the ground

This is why I'm going to go ahead and buy a field gauge and throughly inspect mine before firing. not that **** still can't happen...

As for the picture above, that will buff out. Just needs some JBweld and Duct Tape

Wow, that's impressive and a bit frightening . Well, considering this is the first time most of us have seen this happen and they produced some 30 million Mosins.. thats just lotto odds.

Yeah, weird thing is that I put about 100 rounds through it the day before with no problems. Next day, boom
