I have a '41, so the sight wasn't soldered on. Somewhere on the internet is a list of which years have their rear sight soldered. I'd hate to have to deal with solder.
I merely knocked out the two pins, took off the wood handguards, then used a punch to knock the rear sight forward and off the rail. Easy peasy, although I did have to really wail on one of the pins.
