I finally finished my son's Garand, that I have been working on for a couple of years. It started life as a rack grade woodless Dane with a shot out barrel.
I bead blasted it, and reparked it. When Boyds put their WW2 style Garand stocks on sale last year I got one for it. Then to make it a shooter till I found a decent barrel, I screwed on an import marked LMR barrel.
But when the CMP put the NIW barrels up for sale last year, I got one. Unfortunately, by the time it got here, the gun was semi permanently locked up in my safe due to a broken lock. I finally got the lock repaired, and got the barrel screwed on. Chambering took about 2 turns of the reamer.
When I refinished the main receiver parts, I forgot to refinish the -6 SA(cut) op rod, which would be the proper one for this receiver. So, it now wears a RA buillt NM marked op rod.
My son likes the contrasting colors. The black op rod, medium finish receiver, and lighter color on the bolt.
Rifle still lacks a rear sight aperature, but it is on the way. Final finish required a few extra parts that I didn't have laying around. I ordered some from Numrich, and was not happy with them. Reparked over large pits. I got a few parts from Sarco, and while there was a bit of wear, they were in much better condition.
Hopefully we can test it by the end of the week.
