    C&R Maintenance

Well, how often do you guys clean and oil your rifles? Yes, even those safe queens.

    How many times per year?

I'm curious to find out what products you guys use.

I clean after I shoot them and oil if they have been handled.
I like gunslick foam & Hoppes No.9 to clean the bore and regular motor oil for rust prevention and a little CPL for those hard to reach inner workings.

Typically I'll clean my SKS and .45 after 2-4 trips to the range, which can mean anywhere from 75rounds-200 rounds.

When I do clean them however I do a simple field strip and get down to the nitty gritty with hoppes9 solvent/lube.

If I have shot corrosive, I start by running both hot water and Windex down my barrel. I alternate them several times, and always end with the water. Then, I clean my barrel out with Hoppes, and I use strips of old t-shirt instead of patches. I find that works better. I finish by using motor oil to protect the metal.

I follow your cleaning regimen, except for the t-shirts.

I was wondering, why motor oil vs. regular gun oil bought on the market?

Edit: I clean after every range day and coat with Hoppes 9, as referenced above as "regular gun oil".

Edit2: Since I'm a new collector, I don't have any safe queens. I noticed my Browning BPS oil sheen was a bit wanting so I cleaned it after 6 months from the last clean.

If they have not been shot then some have gone 4-5 years without cleaning. If I use them maybe once a year or two.
IF I shoot corrosive ammo they get windex patches at the range and hot soapy water at home then some shooters choice(or wipe-out foam) followed by tetra-gun oil in the bore and Inhibitor oil and oil spray on the bolt/semi parts and outside metal.

If I cleaned them all once a month That is all I would do all month.

I used motor oil because, I find that motor has more endurance. It coat s the surface better and longer. I think that the Hoppes oil is too thin personally.

I use motor oil because a bottle lasts forever and like above it's thicker than hoppes and remoil

I clean/lube each time I fire them. I oil them down each time I fondle one.

Hoppes solvent is still the best I've found. I use Rem oil for general lube duties.

Spray bores with Windex if I've been shooting corrosive ammo.

For my K31, I use white lithium grease in place of Waffenfett and run a thinly coated patch (with grease) through the barrel. I read on several forums using BreakfreeCLP and M7Pro that I use on my M&P are too thin on the rifle and that WLG works great. I have only run a patch through the barrel once as I haven't shot it yet (working on that...) and will clean and grease the bolt once a month or so as the grease attracts a little bit of dust, even in its case.

I field strip and clean my CnR rifles after every range trip with CLP and re-grease them, Windex is used on the barrel if I've shot corrosive ammo....at about 300-500 rounds I'll run Hoppes into the barrel to clear up the copper residue.

For weapons using wood stocks, be careful using too much oil where the metal meets the wood, the oil can get on the wood and ruin it.
