I've acquired a ghettoed Chi-Com SKS and in the process of de-ghettoing it - I'm replacing the plastic stock with a wooden one and ordered a crossbolt for the new wooden stock. Maybe I could just order a new part - or if I've learned from my experience, order 2-3 p-)

But I also thought that ordering cosmo'ed parts will prepare me for dealing with the entire cosmo'ed rifle.

Mine won't fit in the Oven, So this looks to be a Very good Project for me...

did you use a thermostat to measure how many bulbs and watts it would take to Produce the melting Temperture (125)

I used a $9 or so Wal-Mart meat thermometer, and it revealed that the gungravy generator actually hovers around 130 degrees. If it had been too high, I would've simply removed one lightbulb from the heating array. As for watts, I think I used 40's or 60's. I bought myself a new, pretty light fixture for my bathroom and used the old one with some rust on it in the gungravy generator. Hint: doing this will impress your womenfolk. So, they're whatever wattage the old bulbs were.

I recommend that if you don't have a fixture like this in your bathroom, check and see if any of your friends do. If so, see if they'd be willing to split the price of a new, pretty one from Home Depot with you, and you get to keep the old one for your project.

Yep, I've got a lid... I bought two trash cans, and I simply put the second trash can on top of the first one upside-down. That creates sort of an oval oven. Not to be confused with an oval office. By the way, make sure you use nice, shiny, new trashcans. Because the heat is getting transferred to the rifles via light, the more that gets reflected onto them, the hotter they get and the less energy you're wasting. If the cans aren't shiny, they're absorbing instead of reflecting.

By the way, it makes a good space heater. I really enjoyed running it during the winter months, I wouldn't want to fire it up in the living room during a hot summer day.

I'm too lazy to build an oven, although the attic (crawlspace?) I have in my home office, get's really hot, will that work? I have my K98 stock up there and will see if it actually sweat.

I seriously doubt it'll get up to 130 or so.

Actually My Attic gets Really Hot, I start sweating as soon as I'm up there.
But Gram is right, It wasn't hot enough to sweat the stock.
The Windshield in a Bag thing works fine, I just wanna speed things up a bit. I also want to stay away from any harsh chemicals. Although alot of the chemicals probably would do the job, I assume some of the residue would still be in the stock.

GRAM, Now where did you get those Garabage cans from?

I used oven cleaner and plastic wrap on my old Turk Mauser, and it worked fine. No residue, no discoloration, just rinsed the heck out of it when it was done.

I'd think twice about doing it on something valuable, but this was a $60 Big 5 special back in the day, and it just didn't seem worth the time and trouble to coddle it.

Well my K98 Mauser RC from AIM, Isn't that Valuable to someone other than myself,
However this is my FIRST C&R and to Me, it's priceless. In fact I might go fondle it right now

I do agree though, If I pick up a BiG 5 Special, would probably do the same thing.
