K98 Mausers have been converted to just about every modern sporting cartridge made and are more than strong enough to stand up to 270 Win pressures.

My 1916 Erfurt 30-06 Sporter, the K is not as detailed, the A has a cursive type connector in front of it, and the R looks more like an X ish style, also I do not have the decimals after the KAR. and after the 98. I have a peep sight on it, so, I am not sure the markings on the receiver bridge, but I do have that bent bolt handle/checkered whatever

I removed the scope base and there was two dates 1920 and 1916. There was a crown with ERFURT under that stamped above the 1916. I don't really know what this all means

Your rifle was made in 1916 at the Erfurt arsenal. Erfurt also made Luger pistols http://www.simpsonltd.com/index.php?cPath=179_217

The crown is the symbol of Imperial Germany.

My Kar98a has the 1920 marking also.

The 1920 mark shows that the rifle was in Weimar government possession that year. It was done to prevent people from stealing government rifles and then turning them in at "gun buybacks" for cash.
                Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

Think of all those destroyed 98s; that whole war was a huge tragedy....

The world has never seen such a tragic loss of firearms. Oh, and all those guys that died too. That was also pretty bad.
