Based on some recent 922(r) reading, threading a barrel isn't a 922(r) feature, however 'capacity to accept' a flash hider is, and a flash hider itself absolutely is.

I would be somewhat concerned about that, although the ATF doesn't give hard and fast 922(r) rules. Your best bet is to get a written opinion from ATF on your desired configuration, and if they rule favorably, that configuration would be good for all.

The combination of The Gun Wiki to our system is not only in line with what we are working on, but will also serve as a means in which to build upon our ongoing projects.

I was also thinking of putting on a Choate folding stock, so I'd need to swap out other parts for 922(r) compliance, anyway. I'd keep the Chinese 10-round fixed mag to avoid running afoul of CA AW laws. After slapping on other US-made parts like the Tapco gas piston and op rod, I think I'd be one part away from US compliance, and I'd need to make the part myself since there aren't quite enough compliance parts on the market if the magazine is being kept. I think the easiest part to replace would be the trigger. I'd mill it out of steel or aluminum and stamp USA on the side for good measure.

If it's not obvious, I'm thinking about how I might make a CA-legal compact pistol-gripped truck rifle. The SKS seems like a good starting point since it's already designed to load from stripper clips. A Garand receiver would also have interesting possibilities, but would take a lot more custom work and would wreck a Garand. Who would miss a made-for-America Chinese SKS?
