Russian Sks W/ Ak Muzzle Device?

From what I can tell, the "slanted" AK-47 muzzle device is just a brake, NOT a F.H., but I've been known to be wrong.....once. Anyway, it should be perfectly legal to assemble said configuration, right?

Yes the slant brake is a muzzle brake, not a flash hider. But unless your "SKS" takes detachable mags you can have all the evil features you want (but have to play the 922r game).

As long as the muzzle dimensions are the same as my Russian. Brownell's has them. They require an adapter, which is also available on same part of page. Not only gives a "more AK" (cool factor) look to the SKS, but it all but eliminates muzzle rise, making for QUICK follow up shots. Anyway, if you do get the "set", PM me for PROPER mounting instructions that aren't included w/ parts. I had to learn the "hard" way.

If he's just adding a muzzle brake he does not have to play the 922r parts game. It will however take his SKS out of C&R status while the brake is on.

When you do take a gun out of C&R status, you do have to remove other offending features like the folding bayonet. The link above explains the mods you can and can't do, as well as the definition of offending features and when you need to play the 922r parts game. If I was just adding a muzzle brake that could be removed easily I wouldn't even worry about anything else.

one problem you may have overlooked. SKS has RH thread and I beleive AK has LH thread.

You can get properly-threaded 74-style and Krink brakes for the Yugo here:

Never found slant brakes that would work...

I believe they're saying that the Yugo SKS has RH threads, which are normally covered by the GL.

Guys, here's the deal: in my safe right now sits a Russian w/ slant AK brake w/ adapter w/ 3-400 rds. thru it. The whole reason for the adapter is for the un-threaded BBL. And then the brake threads on (left-handed). Oh, and be A LITTLE generous w/ blue locktite on threads, or your brake will virtually "follow" the 8th-10th round downrange!!!!!!!!

I've been toying with the thought of threading the barrel of a crappy Norinco SKS (with a 10-round fixed mag, of course) and putting a Phantom FAL FH on it. I'm not sure how long the threaded portion needs to be, and I wonder whether the crush washer could simply bear against the sight block without further machining. If I remember correctly (it's been a while since I measured it), it looks like the muzzle end of the barrel is large enough in diameter to support 9/16"-24 threads, but not 5/8"-24 threads.

                              See part number YHM-31:

If the barrel was large enough to support 5/8" threads, I'd consider part number YHM-3080-5C1 instead.

What do y'all think? Have any of you tried anything like this before?

P.S.: I wouldn't butcher my nice Russian SKS this way!
