My bet is that either of the brakes are legal if they are welded on.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was talking about bare threads.
This would be legal, but you'd need to weld it on. I actually did a fair amount of 922(r) reading with regards to the SKS, and wrote a gunwiki article or two with the digest of what I found. Jesse, you'll notice an email I got from you quoted in the SKS article. I also found an ATF-provided list of 922(r) parts in the SKS. Looks a little tough to win the '10 or more' game with an SKS, but it should be doable. Note that if you were to manage that, you'd actually have a domestically built rifle, but you can't use imported magazines.
The combination of The Gun Wiki to our system is not only in line with what we are working on, but will also serve as a means in which to build upon our ongoing projects.

This is a great site for SKS modifications and legal questions.
I guess you could always cut the grenade launcher stuff off and then recrown the barrel and attach a brake that will fit. Then you wouldn't have to worry about welding the brake on, you would just void the C&R status(you don't have to play the 10 parts game for this). Of course, you would be hacking up a rifle and that may not be something you want to do from a collectors standpoint.Comment

I guess I got lucky. Mine came with a brake that looks ok, actually works, and the gun's way more accurate than I expected it to be.I won't be insulted, I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.

Is the black pipe you're talking about, the same muzzle device in this pic?
