You don't have to keep your HSC current to own a gun, you only need it to buy or borrow one.

I've heard both ways... that COE exempts from the HSC, and that it exempts for C&R only (which makes no sense).

the COE does nothing by itself, it only works when used in conjunction with the 03FFL, and only for limited purposes.

If you have the C&R+COE, It exempts you from the 10-day wait on all C&R firearm purchases.

If you have the C&R+COE, It exempts you from the HSC requirement when you are purchasing a C&R handgun. You still need an HSC when buying a modern handgun.

If you have the C&R+COE, It exempts you from the the 1-in-30 rule for ALL handguns, C&R and Modern.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Thanks KE6GUJ and cokebottle I had heard about this, I think on this forum with a C&R and COE one could let the HSC go. But the more I hear about it, I think it best to have all three. It is just more money to our useless legislators but we gotta do what we gotta do to keep our old and modern toys. My reason in asking is my HSC expires soon and I was contemplating getting a COE for no other reason than handgun ammo in Feb2011. I will get HSC renewed and then COE .....Cheers

Do you know if you already had a livescan for another reason( job licensing) if that is transferable, or do you have to do it a second time?

                yes they are.

12807. (a) The following persons, properly identified, are exempted from the handgun safety certificate requirement in subdivision (b) of Section 12801:

                (10) An active, or honorably retired member of the United States Armed Forces, the National Guard, the Air National Guard, the active reserve components of the United States, where individuals in those organizations are properly identified. For purposes of this section, proper identification includes the Armed Forces Identification Card, or other written documentation certifying that the individual is an active or honorably retired member.

why would the feds be concerned with a CA-only law and put it on their website?
