It's nylon so it is post World War II. It might be a Korean carbine sling http://www.schludershots.com/militar...an-Marked.html
          Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

Most of our Milsurp rifles, M1 carbine, and M1 Garands have been through at least one armory rebuild.

              So what is corrrect????

I would just leave her be and shoot the f out of it...

I think the only 'correct' Carbine or Garand would be a bring back or duffle bag gun...

Well I got my BRB stock today, but........................

I had a gun show over the weekend, I brought the M1 to show a few of my vender friends my find, one pointed out that the barrel (exposed part) had been polished down to add to my list IF I wanted to restore her, but thought it was a cool find & shooter never the less.

So I was in the keep her and shoot her frame of mind, put a card on the table "For Show - NOT For Sale".

The second day a gentleman in his mid 70's came up to my table and ask if her could look at her, "sure, thanks for asking" (my usuall reply) after looking her over for awhile he ask what I new about her, I went through all that has been talked about in this thread, then he asked if I would consider a trade, I told him I really was'nt looking to get rid of her but what do you have in mind, he said he would be back in a few minutes, had to go out to his car.

Half hour later he comes back with a 99% 1935 Colt Bankers Special 38, hands it to me and says "I will trade you even for this" after checking it out I said "are you sure, this is a great old Colt", he said yes he was sure, he wanted this M1 and that it was a personal thing and I probley would'nt understand, so I made the trade, he shook my hand, cradled the carbine in his arms and left.

I figured there are alot more M1's out there than Bankers Special's, and it really seemed to mean the world to him, so I'm on a carbine hunt again.

Once more, thanks to all in this thread who have helped me to learn more about them.
