No.. you guys stay with iron sight and we get any type of scope available on the market. Remember we the mods.. you guys are the purist. As you can see i really dont think there will be much competition. We respect the history and honor the rifle but we just want the rifle to shoot better according to our needs. For example an owner with degenerative shoulder and he can not take the recoil of the 7.62 x 54R so he install a thick butt pad. Is it that bad? All of those Mods doing is to make the rifle to shoot better for them and not for anyone else.
Any purist not guilty of this raise your hand.

is all i am going to call those who want a to forbid any modification to a old gun, maybe can start a forum for them instead and call it the
fuddy duudy gun forum...
to post in that forum:
no counterbores
no stock mods
no scopes unless factory installed
no caliber changes
no refinishing
no reblueing
no polishing
no firing of said guns either
.

Well if you want to use optics there are many non permanent NO Gunsmithing scope mounts out there available for milsurps, I have used a LER scope on a few of my mosins.No.. you guys stay with iron sight and we get any type of scope available on the market. You may respect the history of these rifles, but based on the comments of some, you can not say "We" unless you are the little piggy crying "WE" all the way home.
Also the example you mention is NOT Permanent, while many who are trying to argue and call names have done permanent mods. I have done permanent mods to C&R firearms, thats why they dont get posted about here, they are no longer C&R. And even for example permanent mods such as converting a basic M-91/30 to a PU sniper, these would still belong because they are in keeping with the C&R Spirit, but slapping an ATI stock, Bent bolt mod, scope mount and muzzlebreak.... how is that trying to play C&R??
Serious if some of you want to discuss this like grown azz men and not be retarded and or call people names and such then we can do this. but if you are gonna ride the short bus and post snippy quippets and use smileys to try to argue your point dont bother posting.Last edited by Noonanda; 10-18-2010, 9:34 AM."You see in this world theres two kinds of people my friend. I think we have a different definition of C&R. I personally dont support the definition from ATF. It is kindda like you have a 1965 Ford Mustang and now you change a new set of tires and it lost its classic status because the new set of tires and perhaps better performance and safety. Also the example you mention is NOT Permanent, while many who are trying to argue and call names have done permanent mods. No Ive never even been in the Gunsmithing forum before, so I did not know this. That is Sarcasm in case you didnt figure it out.
Underneath the Gunsmithing forum header it says "Pro, Amateur & WECSOG and Tutorials, Guides & OLL Build Instructions" so the amatuer gunsmithing converting a C&R into something that is NOT C&R would be better. Heck those threads could also go into Centerfire.
Some of the "sporterized" rifles I have seen definately fall into the Pro category, while others fall into the WECSOG and Bubba categories."You see in this world theres two kinds of people my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig... You Dig" Blondie from TGBUComment

It's more like you put a spoiler, spinners, a bra, ground lights, a hood scoop, LED tailights, and those little low profile shopping cart tires on a 1965 Mustang. You ruined something unique, it looks like crap, and it's a good example of how you can put money into something and actually make it worth less.Last edited by Interloper; 10-18-2010, 9:44 PM.Comment

Sorry to let you know beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. What is ugly to you might not be to someone else. Personally I think the Mosin stock is UGLY. However, many think it looks ok. I mod my rifles according to my taste and my application.Comment

Sigh.
I feel like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day.
Yes they made a bunch. A small fraction have survived through the decades. A smaller number have made it to the US.
They aren't making them anymore and they never will again.
In that regard, they're very much like 65 Mustangs or choose your favorite collectible.
Unlike old furniture or baseball cards, these things may very well have been carried in combat, in some of the most desperate wars in human history. These things may have saved a life and ended another. These things have been used to liberate and oppress. They have shaped history. They are the soldiers of the past. Ghosts. And each one has a story to tell if you are willing to listen!Comment
