    Want to get a K98

Ive always loved the history with the WW2 rifles like Garand, Mosins, and Mausers. Ive had my grandpas bayonet from the korean war for quite some time. But last night I was bored and i looked up the serial and model marking. I WAS SURPRISED. I dont have an american bayonet. I have a GERMAN! bayonet. I dont know how this came to be since my grandpa fought in the korean war. Looks like there is something I dont know. Anyway since I have this bayonet which is in a nice condition I wanna find an authentic k98. So when im at gunshows what are some good vendors that are always there and if im not at a gun show I guess gunbroker is my only hope? Anyways I just want to find an authentic k98 for a good price.

The cheapest K98k's are Russian Capture (RC) rifles that were captured by the Soviets, disassembled, refinished, and reassembled as mixmasters. The supply has dried up. J&G Sales had some but they are no longer listed on their web site. One place that still has some is http://www.allans-armory.com/aaresult.php?PageId=45

Before buying the rifle you might want to post pictures of the bayonet. Czech and Yugo 98 bayonets look similar to the German 98 bayonets.
    Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

Just got an email from wideners -- they just got some in. import marked, mixmasters. But at least the nazi symbols have not been peened.

Widener's Reloading and Shooting Supply has ammo and reloading supplies for sale at cheap prices. Find out why we're the best deal on the web today!

no connection to wideners except that I bought a couple of m44s from them last year for $59 each!

Sorry bout that. Yes there are marks and there is a serial and this S.245/36. also near the butt end of the handle on the opposite side of the pushable button there are two what it seems to look like eagles and the number 155 underneath both.

Yeah, my trashed Mauser has some Weimar Eagles with that # too.

Good luck finding a Russian capture. Sometimes you will see them at the gunshows, but beware of the obnoxious price gougers. They have no shame.

I recall this one fat guy that was trying to sell a blond wood byf '41 RC for $900 at Vallejo in July. I think he decided my buddy were chumps because we're on the younger side. Dumbass. Who pays $900 for a common Mauser?!?!

I was lucky enough to find a Yugo M98 which is basically a Yugoslavian captured K98. Almost all of the nazi markings have been scrubbed/peened off with the exception of 2 very very small eagles on the cocking sleeve and under the rear site. The Yugoslavian crest has been stamped on the receiver. Cost me $300 but it is in excellent condition besides losing the original markings. Where I live it would have cost me $100 to have an FFL transfer a J&G sales Russian capture to me in god knows what condition. I wanted a K98 bad as well... I was more than happy to find this one. See link below if you are curious.

Nice bayonet! Definitely deserving of a rifle to keep it company.

245 was the Number Code for the firm, Jetter & Scheerer, a maker of surgical instruments in Tuttlingen. They made bayonets and military knives during both world wars. They are still in business today, under their commercial trademark Aesculap-Werke. The "S" denotes small arms and 36 is the year of manufacture.

Your bayonet appears to be in nice condition. Early Jetter & Scheerer bayonets are one of the less common and more desirable makers. Does the scabbard have the same maker code and serial number as the bayonet? Any markings on the reverse of the belt frog? If there's a mark, post what you can make out and I'll see if I can ID the maker for you.

I actually wished that my buddy would have verbally told that guy to go **** himself for naming such a price. Especially considering the fact that it said $700 on the label.

                          Oh, a head's up anyway:

I know that S/147 or just 147 means it was made @ JP Sauer plant.

Yep sounds German, Czech's have circle z or CSZ. Yugos have different writing.
