I can only speak of my K98(RC). Nothing fancy, only 50yds but I'm happy with it....
The VZ24 and Yugo 24/47 are fine rifles but I do not have them.....

        I got a Czech-made 98/22 Turk Mauser from Big 5 a while back that's a tack-driver - a tad heavy, but I'm more than happy with it.

Was browsing years ago at the old Armory of Orange and found this hidden in the Mauser rack.

That wrap-around reinforcing plate caught my eye and I was like, "No way." I had never seen one of these in a shop or show before ( and haven't since ). I debated for maybe 5 minutes before asking the gentleman behind the counter to hold it for me until I could return with some $. Another neat carbine to look for is the persian M29 & M30. I put these on par with the Mosin carbines for overall fun factor - big boom, big flash, and a big thump in the shoulder! Used to see these at Paul's shop in Glendale ( Military Historical Arms & Antiques ), but he has since moved the business to Arizona.

Back on topic, Big 5 still has some Yugo 24/47's pop up from time to time. Check the paper for upcoming sales and you might get lucky.

The Turk mausers, while ugly, are pretty good shooters. Don't forget about the Gew98!

I picked up one of Classic Arms M24/47s back in November. It was my first mauser. I bought it because my friend had one and I really liked it. Rifle is in great shape, excellent bore and a good shooter.
Then in December I picked up my first 98k. All I can say is WOW. The fit, finish, everything is just nicer on the 98k. I now own 4 98k and just the one Yugo mauser. I hardly ever shoot the Yugo as well.
Hard numbers for you so you get an idea but I bought the hand select very good Yugo, price came out to around $200 shipped to my door ($196 I think). My first 98k (byf41) was off Gunbroker and was $330 shipped but came with a bayonet and repro sling. I recently just picked up a 1940 "27" code Erma 98k russian capture for $265 shipped off gunbroker and it is a tack driver.
Your call of course but if I had bought a 98k first I probably wouldnt have bought the Yugo. Its here now and I dont regret buying it but the 98k is a far superior feeling/shooting rifle to me.
I have no experience with the vz24.

When it comes to Mausers, it's a good thing there is no rule where you can only have one. With that said, here are my three preferences when it comes to my choice for Mausers:

Swedish - Best shooter and best action for me. Nothing is as smooth as the 96 action, and the 6.5x55 is one sweet round. The carbines are especially nice from my perspective.

Arisaka- Based on the model 98 action, probably one of the most solid and best built of them all (early war). Like the Swedes above they come in a 6.5 variety that is one sweet shooter - especially in a carbine. The 7.7 variety is on par with most of the other main battle rifle cartridges of the time.

German K98 - A classic Mauser. The standard. The benchmark.

However, given the choice between the Czech and the Yugo, I'd probably go with the Yugo.

Either way, you cannot go wrong. Have fun!
Next to me in the blackness lay my oiled blue steel beauty. The greatest Christmas gift I had ever received, or would ever receive. Gradually, I drifted off to sleep, pringing ducks on the wing and getting off spectacular hip shots.

The Czech arms industry has a much higher reputation than the Yugoslavians. Czech steel is said to be superior to even German steel. See Ludwig Olsen's Mauser Bolt Rifles.

The Yugo 24/47 are intermediate length actions, meaning bolts, firing pins, mainsprings, stocks are not interchangeable. The K98k and Vz24 are standard long actions. Parts are available everywhere. The 24/47 is a hodge-podge of parts being a thrown together model post-war. Even the original Yugo Model 24 crest was ground off so the commie crest could be applied. <gag>

Overall the Czech Vz24 is just a better rifle in every way. I'd take it over a late war K98k any day.

I am a huge fan of all Mauser except the Turkish ones.
                    A blanket, ignorant, statement.

Supply and Demand. The German ones have historical significance (you know, that whole WWII thing), thus higher demand. Plus, less supply, the only distributors I have seen with K98ks right now are SOG and JG, where Century, SOG, JG, AIM, R-Gun sall have Czech Mausers.

All of them were out until recently. When I got mine, SOG was the only one that listed them, and they were sold out a few weeks later.

Yes, Turkey bought many Gew. 88's and 98's from Germany.
