    Mauser preference?

    Hi,

Looks like it's time for me to buy a shooter.

Aim has a czech mauser seen here:

Classic Arms has some yugo mausers seen here:

The price is similar. Are there functional/quality differences between the czech and yugo?

Any mauser experts please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Apoc

I am a huge fan of all Mauser except the Turkish ones. However, when it comes down to the Czech or the Yugo, I would go with Yugo every time. The Czech Mausers have a huge front sight guard that blocks a lot of the sight picture. It's really extremely annoying. However, if you removed the front sight guard it would be fine.

As far as any quality differences between the 2, I really am not sure. The Yugo Mausers are very high quality, but nothing beats a German or a Swedish.

I sure enjoy my VZ24. Tough, rugged great shooter. The winged front site is no problem for me.

I added a Mojo rear site to make it even better for my old eyes. http://www.mojosights.com/
I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever you chose.

I agree with Crusader, you can't go wrong with a German or Swedish Mauser. I love my Swedish M96 and Argentinian M1909 (DWM made 98) Mausers. Then again, I pretty much love any old milsurp rifle in good working order. Even the funky French MAS rifles.

            Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

I'm very happy with my aimsurplus Vz24. Excellent shooter, excellent bore, but no crest. I just wanted a shooter and didn't want to pay an extra 50 bucks for a crested Vz24. I also have a 24/47 and its pretty darn fun too, just like the Vz24 better.

Honestly I would go with a German RC k98, but thats just me, if your looking to eventually start a C&R collection that would be an excellent place to start, but then again the VZ24 isnt bad either, I just prefer my K98s to the Czech and Yugo rifles.

                  This^

                  Although I would take a Vz.24 over the 24/47.

I personally like FN contract Mausers
Some say that he once mooned two prostitutes just for a round of drinks, but wasn't surprised by the reply......They call him, the Hutch
Some say that he rode a dirtbike 7k miles across the country and that he once applied Bengay to his own testicles for a mere $50............They call him, the Hutch -Top Gear

I second that, if you really get into Mausers, then you can start the epic quest to find a G33/40...I starting walking that road a while ago and still havent found one their out there, they just need to be found My advise..K98, or the Vz.24, you choose bro.

SOG still has some German K98ks listed, for $279.

whats the quality though? You dont want to get a dirt mauser and then have it turn you off of mausers

                            Their description is:

These WWII collector pieces are in good to very good condition. Sure to increase in value! Nice clean rifles with WWII marked codes and dates on receiver ring. These are historic K98 rifles and every collector must own one!
The stock number they are using is the same as what I bought last October. Mine is a pretty typical Russian Capture. The stock was kind of beat, with ugly-arse shellac, metal is decent, hot blued by the Soviets, nothing matches but the markings are largely intact, except the swastikas were neatly peened.

After removing the Shellac and cleaning it up a bit, with some boiled linseed oil, it is pretty good, considering it came from the losing side of a war, 65 years ago.

                            Can't complain at all.

98k or the vz24 either one is fine. If I had to choose... It would be the 98k.
Once I receive my FFl 03 I will purchase the German mauser.
J&G sales sell the 98ks for 300 dollars. Anyone ever bought from them before?
