Sportsmans Guide...Albanian brass even. It is pretty good ammo as I have shot some. Then you find a coupon for $10 and use it. Shipping to me in Irvine was $25.49 and that is with wood crate. People forget that when you BUY a gun you also SHOOT IT. Shooting a gun 20 times a sitting is just ho hum IMO...Get some Robidouxs...I am going to order another one shortly and start hoarding because of CA and its wonderous laws. When I was in WA I have almost 5k rounds of 7.62x54. I was down to under 500 that is why I am restocking again. I will buy some more but also want some Russian and Bulgy...The shipping is the killer really.

    Merchandise Total: $169.97
    Sales Tax: $0.00
Shipping and Handling: $25.49 (Ship Method: Ground)
    Package Protection: $0.99
    Sub-Total: $196.45
    Less Merchandise Coupon: $-10.00

    Grand Total: $186.45

The K31 guys can enjoy looking at their rifle . I enjoy shooting mine.

I think that was a typo... .10 per round would be super cheap and I would place 5 orders right now for it.

If accuracy is your goal... It doesn't get better than the K31 unless you want a finnish M39, but that's a whole separate thread.

Get the K31 now... if you really want a mosin, they'll still be around. And btw- if you saw the K31 for 225 on calguns, I was thinking about getting it. I love my K31 and the .50 ammo doesn't bother me to much. Shooting it is great fun and its super accurate.

For cheap plinking/close range hunting get the M44. Anything past 150-200 yards you probably want the K31.

When shooting my K31 I am not limited by bullet cost but by shoulder tenderness.

At the end of the day, the m44 is still a Mosin. The K31 is a Swiss made target rifle

            A K31 for $225? I'd hit that.

              k31. it's accuracy will contend with a scoped M44 and it isn't bubba'd (apparently)

Mosin ammo is cheaper and it has a scope on it(but Ive already bought and sold a mosin). I hear that the K31 is very accurate and I could put a scope on it if i wanted to later. So guys any help on which is the better buy?
Just out of curiosity, why do you need a scope?

An M44 with a scope will not be as accurate as a stock K31. Bet on it.

Buy the K31. Super great price at $225.00

Look in Big 5 ad for Mosins on sale for $99.00.

                        Buy the Mosin.

I'd say get the K31. I have one and its by far my favorite rifle. I like it over my 1919A4, (thats saying something) I want to get another one, but I might get a K11 first just to have one of each. I also have an M44, Its a nice weapon as well. Ammo is cheap.

                            Hmm, that's a tough one. Let's see:

Mosin - tens of millions of rifles manufactured in all former com-block countries. Chances to be able to buy one 50 years from now for $99: extremely good.

K31 - only a few hundred thousands made only in one country, Switzerland. No longer imported because supplies dried out two years ago. Chances to get one for that price next year: zero.

Mosin - crude, ugly, manufactured by illiterate peasants, accuracy sucks. Made for an army of millions where the quantity not the quality and how many lives were lost was important; that was the communist defense doctrine. Only advantage is cheap ammo.

K31 - probably most refined and precise machined military surplus rifle. The only rifle that can compare in accuracy with the K31 is the Swede Mauser. Only disadvantage is more expensive ammo but a very small investment in a reloading press can bring the cost lower than the Mosin ammo.

Now it's your choice, what would you like to wear on your wrist: a fine and extremely accurate Swiss timepiece or a Russian Pobeda alarm clock?

                              K31 - it's not even a contest.

K31's are a much better rifle, and getting harder to find. At $225, you won't find a better price. The only thing better with the M44 is the ammo is cheaper.

K31 is a better rifle and $225 is a very good price. You can always pick up a Mosin later for around $150. The only advantage Mosin has is cheap ammo price. But even x54R prices are not that great compared to other surplus. x39 costs less for surplus and same for new ammo. 8mm is approaching x54R prices.

I'd get the Swiss. A K31 and M38 were among the first C&Rs that I bought.
